A problem I've never seen before EVER!
So first off I don't know all the details since I'm a third party to this particular problem, but hopefully I can explain what is going on correctly...
I bought 2142 Deluxe Edition for a friend as a 'going away' when he moved out of town and as an excuse to introduce more of my friends to |TG| and 2142.
Anyways when he recently updated to Windows XP sp3 his 2142 went AWOL. Long story short after numerous reinstall new drivers etc he has yet to fix his glitch.
The glitch is that his keyboard and mouse fail right after he presses the 'join' button in 2142. All the menus, loading screens, BFHQ stuff works fine but as soon as he presses 'join' after the map loads its like 2142 doesn't sense his keyboard or mouse. He can [ALT] + [TAB] out but otherwise his board is dead and his mouse is non existent.
I've never seen a glitch like this so other then a system restore that he is trying right now to pull him back to sp2 I have NO CLUE what could even cause this to happen.
Any advice?

First of all I got to say hello fellow Michigander =p, I'm from Durand about 20min West of Flint. But at the moment I'm at Ann Arbor for college. But anyways back to your problem, this is a weird glitch, honestly never heard of before and I heard some different things. Has he tried usuing a different mouse or keyboard? I'm assuming they're both usb so try using a different set and see if it works... I'm gonna research this for a couple here and if I come up with anything that sounds like a clear easy fix it I'll be back.

Okay I found one thing so far, but I'm still looking I'll just add to the list while I find things.
1. In one case BF cleared all of the player's control settings, clicking the restore defaults in the control options screen fixed this.A.E.K.Δ.B.

I had this problem once awhile ago, this fixed it. Took me forever to actually realize that was the problem, about 2-3 weeks after it happened I changed my button I use to talk on Ventrilo, so hopped on BF2142 to change the squad talk button off that button before I forgot.... Boy was I surprised when I saw all the blanks.
