New mic advice
I'm looking to get a new, simple and fairly cheap mic. I previously had this mic that just plugs into the side of my laptop but it never actually worked as it cost a couple dollars on ebay.
I use on-ear headphones so I can't get one that attaches to the ear.
What would you suggest or what do you use and why?

Re: New mic advice
I use the Sennheiser PC 350 Pro. Great mic, great sound, great noise-cancellation (no noisy kids aaaahh) and comfortable fit. It's expensive though. I used to have the Sennheiser PC151. Good mic and sound, ok fit and not so good noise-cancellation.
You can get a cheaper Sennheiser too. It's really up to how much you wanna spend.

Re: New mic advice
I should have stipulated that the mic needs to be separate as I already have headphones that cost me nearly £300.

...300 euros? Wow, I just use Skullcandy earbuds, with a 30 buck headset, and it works just fine.
There was a mic thread somewhere in this forum or the general discussion section. Try searching for Mic in the forums first. There is a boatload of info in a specific thread on microphones. I just can't remember which one.|TG-Irr|Adaxa

Re: New mic advice
Thanks for the help, Adaxa. It's actually more like €400 (£300). Don't worry, I had them before gaming, ha!

Re: New mic advice
Disclaimer: What I am about to tell you is what you probably already know mixed with what I use.
Buying a decent mic (for a decent price) can be slightly difficult. I know I use separate headphones because I was also stubborn on using my Bose headphones with the computer. Just a few helpful common sense hints!
1. Please don't use a webcam mic. Terrible quality of sound.
2. You really can't go wrong with Longitech. I own one of their headsets and was very happy with the mic quality.
I myself use a condenser mic, which is complete overkill if you only plan to use a mic for gaming. Hope I could help!

Re: New mic advice
I just use a bluetooth headset that I already had. It's a nicer model that has good noise cancellation. It's the Jabra BT8010. But, since you're using nice headphones.. probably wrap-around type.. I don't think that this would work for you.

Re: New mic advice
The Zalman ZM-MIC 1 is generally well reviewed for a stand alone dirt cheap mic. A lot of people I know use them as well, and they say they work fine.
I'd post a link, but I'm below 15 posts so far.
Myself, I'd just prefer to drop a bit of money on a decent headset. I've got the Sennheiser PC 151s, and they're just lovely.

Re: New mic advice
Yea, thank you. I think I might try to get them delivered from the US.
Cheers for the heads up.

Re: New mic advice
I've used that Zalman one for over a year now, cheap, and works great! Picks up your voice very well (and sadly a lot of other stuff, such as the police sirens of the city...), its very sensitive.

Good point, Anospa. What city might that be? I'm in London so will have a similar problem.

Re: New mic advice
I use a crappy boom mike I got from a friend. It can't be worth more than $5, but when I hear my voice echoing in voip it sounds allright. I also use earbud-styled headphones.
