    Heck, you've got both XP and Vista, so install them both! If a game give you problems in Vista use XP instead.

    Also, install all the games in a separate partition from the OS so when it's time to reinstall the OS (as Windows needs annually it seems) you won't have to reinstall the games.

    Not quite.

    The HDD is always running at 7200RPM when spun up. The 1.5-3.0 is SATA to SATAII.

    SATAII speeds WILL NOT reduce the life of your hard drives, as the HDD spins at 7200RPM regardless of mode.
