ERROR: ~df394b.tmp
So this past week 2142 started giving me this very odd error. To make things worse it only happened the second time I opened 2142 after boot up not the first. In short if I restarted my PC I could launch 2142 no problem but if I closed out of 2142 and tried to load the program a second time, it would create this error message.
The actual error popped up just after the 'slash' screen loaded, but before the Walker animation in the loading sequence. I was unsuccessful in locating any relevant details via Google or any other search engine except that this issue was similar to a problem with BF2 and some think that it was tied to the demo files, or rather Battle Recorder.Faulting application bf2142.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ~df394b.tmp, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00083c9c.
So why am I writing this? Well in hopes that if anyone else in the 2142 community every has this glitch they will know what I did to fix it, and maybe someone will be able to offer additional insight that I missed.
So how to fix this glitch. Well for starters the only thing I found that worked was a MANUAL uninstall. I emphases the MANUAL part because I tired the 'automated' uninstall and re-install and still had this issue after the fact.
This = LINK = will walk you through the manual uninstall process.
Once full removed, re-install 2142 and patch to the latest version (at time of writing 1.5). For those like me with Norther Strike I recommend re-installing in this order. 2142 -> 1.4 patch -> NS -> 1.4 patch -> 1.5 patch (full).
Again I'm not really sure what caused this error, but I know it is an issue that has been around since BF2. So if there is anyone else out there with this problem hopefully this will help.
