vista mic boost problems in 2142
I am running vista 64. I am unable to get in game VOIP working for bf2142. I have UAC disabled. I am unable to run the game in xp compatibility mode because the game wont recognize my dvd if I do...
I am using a creative xfi card with latest drivers.
I am able to run bf2142voicesetup.exe. I have to run it in xp sp2 compatibility mode for my mic to be picked up. The program seems to set everything correctly including mic boost.
The in game mic boost always defaults to off and I hear no difference with mic boost on or off while in the audio settings page of bf2142. I am able to hear my voice in the bf2142 audio settings page. It seems low volume.
In game no one can hear me or see that I am even trying to talk.
Anyone have similar problems or a solution? I will keep working at it.
Installing an xp partition for gaming is not a solution.

Re: vista mic boost problems in 2142
I've had the same problems with 32bit windows.
Is your Mic Boost and Mic volume turned up in your Window's settings?
I don't know if the options are the same with Ultimate, but I've found Home Premium will sometimes reduce my levels and my boost.
Control Panel:Sounds:Recording Tab:Properties for Microphone:Levels Tab
There's a mic boost and a Microphone slider.
I've also noticed when I've had to reinstall 2142 and the voip setup program starts, I get absolutely NO response from it, but the ingame recording tab does a pretty good job of accurately replicating what I sound like in VOIP.
Glad to see you back around

I had a similar problem, I can't remember the details, but here my solution. My machine has mic and speaker pick ups in front and in back of the tower. The front mic got disabled every time the game booted, but the back is fine.

Re: vista mic boost problems in 2142
I have resolved this issue I think. I enabled alchemy for the game. booted it up. then removed alchemy. Now voip will stay enabled in game. Mic boost button in game shows that mic boost is not on. But in windows mic boost shows it as on and behaves as if it is on. In game players report they can hear me fine.

Re: vista mic boost problems in 2142
BF2142 inherently has a lower pickup for the Mic then say BF2 does.
I used to have a lot of issues with my Mic when I used the X-Fi cards. Creative is so much of a pain at times. But when they do work they are good.
----------------------------
Basically what I did was this:
Boost the Mic in the game and in the Vista audio properties.
In the game make sure the threshold is all the way to the left.
In the Vista Properties make sure that the Levels for the Mic are turned up all the way to the right.
Their has also been some instances where changing the Exclusive Mode in Vista's Advanced properties has help. The one (Allow applications to take exclusive control of the device). Not sure if that will help everyone. But it is something to look at when just having basic sound issues in general for both the Mic and Speakers. Just something optional to look at when messing around with things.
Also I use the Razer Barracuda Gaming sound card now. But I have an options in my Vista properties under the Custom tab as well as my sound card control panel that helped with some of my issues. It is called (Monitoring). I needed that enabled for my Mic to work. It has been some time since I have messed around with a Creative card; so I do not remember if that option was their for it. If it is check it out.

Re: vista mic boost problems in 2142
Ok, I just built my self a brand new computer with Vista (was using XP on old PC). I too am having the problem where 2142 won't keep my mic boost enabled. I also have a Creative X-Fi sound card, however, for some reason, I can't use the rear "Mic" slot, it recognizes it as a Line In, and therefore won't recognize the mic when it's plugged in (even though it shows it as a mic slot on the card it self). So I had to connect my front audio to the SC to get my mic to work. Now the issue I have is that the mic volume setting in control panel doesn't have a mic boost option and I don't understand why. It's the latest drivers for my sound card straight from Creative's site, but I have no mic boost. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: vista mic boost problems in 2142
I too have a new system. But I am using onboard sound.
This worked for me (From ea forums):
If you are having problems running a game and you think it is related to compatibility with Windows Vista, you can try to get the game to work by running it in Compatibility Mode. You can also check the Windows Vista Compatibility Center here.
Make sure you have downloaded all of the necessary updates to Windows Vista, including Service Pack 1.
Note: This setup should only be used for games that have been developed before Windows Vista. Please consult the Minimum System Requirements for your game to see if Windows Vista is listed before attempting to run your game in Compatibility Mode.
To run your game in Compatibility Mode:
Right-click the game's desktop shortcut icon and choose Properties.
In the Properties Panel, click the Compatibility tab.
Place a check in the Compatibility Mode checkbox.
Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the mode box.
Click Apply to save your changes.
