4 speaker sounds in headphones
Hey guys, I need some help here. I miss my old 4 speaker surround sound effects in my computer room, but since the deafening noise would drive my wife bonkers she bought me a set of headphones. They only accept 2 speaker output from the computer so now I cant hear people sneaking up on me like before. Is there a type of headset I can use that uses 4 speaker hookup? I've got SoundBlaster FX installed on my computer.
Thanks

I use a plantronics usb headset that is surround sound. You will have a learning curve, but once you get it you are set.

I believe a good mic is more important than surround sound.

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
I use AudioFX Pro. It's a USB "5+1" surround sound headset (three drivers in each earpiece, performs similar to 5.1) with a good quality mic and force feedback (triggered by bass, not controlled by the game). The rumble feature is not that intense, so it's not bothersome in the least and adds a subtle touch, but it can be turned off if it bothers you. My only complaints are the LED light on the inline controls that cannot be shut off and that my pair didn't stand up to too much before the plastic above the earcup brackets cracked. A little electrical tape around the cracked piece has held it together perfectly fine and is hardly noticeable.
Bucklin out.

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
Well I did get the Turtle beach X-52 headset. After hookup I could not get the side channels to respond then I noticed on the box it only works with 5.1 sound system, no side channels.
I do have a problem with the rear speakers. Left side is ok, but the right side I can hear in both sides. Maybe some kind of crossfeedback with all the headset vol controls or the three plugs in the sound card. I know that if I just hook up my standard headset that the sound stays on just one side. Then again it may be my SoundBlaster Fatality Pro card. I've had it for two years and was using it with front and rear speakers before wife bought me the headset so she could have some piece and quiet! Can not use the SoundBlaster setting in audio settings as it will crash my computer after awhile. Lots of people having that issue with this card. Will have to check out Turtle Beach forums to see if others are experiencing the same thing.
I do like the Turtle Beach headset as the sound is not so loud now. I can hear squad members over the din now! lol

I actually run the Triton AXPRO headset. Works fine, and the sub isn't overwhelming either.

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
So if I get rid of my SoundBlaster Fatality Pro and get something else, what other sound card could I use that 2142 would accept with 4 speaker headphones?

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
I am confused... 4 speaker headphones? Are there actually two little speakers in each ear? I don't see how that could make a difference. If you are using headphone mode on the X-Fi (if that is in fact what you have), it's just as good at projecting the surround-sound to your ears via headphones than the 4 speakers would be. I have played with 4 speakers, and headphones back and forth when I still lived at home, and as long as I used the correct mode (set the x-fi to game mode, and switched between headphones / 4 speakers settings), the sound quality was the same, if not better on my relatively simple plantronics headphones. I hear prettymuch everything with these headphones and can easily tell where the sounds are coming from 360 degrees, and they are nothing fancy. I was under the impression the sound card made the biggest difference?

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
I picked up a pare of these Plantronics headset for a cheap price at Circuit City.

They have good sound quality and are comfortable. At least for me. You could get an identical pair with a Dolby USB adapter for about $100 dollars which is like twice as much.
The sound quality of this headset is still not as good as my Razer HP-1 headset but it is quite good. Plantronics does seem to have some decent stuff and they dho seem to have a good price for their products.

Re: 4 speaker sounds in headphones
HOUSEKEEPER, if you are using a SoundBlaster card go into the Creative Console Launcher and set the speakers to 5.1 and you will see the set up I'm talking about. At one time I did have one set of speakers in front of me and another set behind me using the rear channel for surround sound. It was creepy in that I would sometimes actually turn around in my seat when I heard someone walking behind me in the game. That's the realism I am going for in this headset. There is supposedly 4 distinct speakers in each ear cup, front, surround, center and sub-woofer. But I'm having trouble with my surrond right rear.
Housekeeper, are you able to use the SoundBLaster Fataltily setting in the 2142 Audio section?
