    2142 Crashes computer upon startup

Well, I launched 2142 only to have my computer act like I had told it to restart. During the black loading screen that occurs between the launch picture of PAC forces and the shooting EU walker intro is when it "restarted," it pretty much just blacked out and did that.

This led me to investigate, then finding I had gotten the Vundo virus. After searching around how to get rid of it, I seemed to do just that. (My browser had begun acting funny in addition to 2142 crashing). My browser now appears to be fine, but 2142 is still crashing my computer when I attempt to launch it. Symantec Antivirus Auto-Protect is also being disabled without my consent, so maybe I still have some virus thing. Maybe this has happened to someone else? I'll keep looking, but help is much appreciated!

    -I have reinstalled 2142
-I am an admin on the computer (if that makes any difference)

Hey there Frozen, let's see if we can't solve your issue.
First thing you're going to want to do is go to Malwarebytes website, and download the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. After downloading and installing, run an update. Once updated, boot your PC into safe-mode, and run a full system scan with Malwarebytes. Remove any infections found, and you _should_ solve any malware problems. If that doesn't solve the issue with 2142, well, at least the malware is off of your system.

I have already done the full system scan (that's how I found out I had Vundo), but without running safe mode. (don't know how to do that :O)

While booting the computer, start hammering F8. Eventually you'll get a boot menu that'll ask you how you want to boot your PC. select "safe mode" from the list.

I strongly suggest you try Malwarebytes, Norton tends to be... Less than effective.

Yep, like I said, I had already used Malwarebytes to do a full system scan (leading me to find out I had Vundo). I did this prior to posting. I will try the safe mode scan though. Thanks.

    Whoops! Sorry, I misread that.

Hmm, I have done this twice now. I leave the scan to run until it's complete. When I return later on, the computer is no longer in safe mode and has seemingly restarted (it's on the login screen). I don't think the Malwarebytes would restart the system without consent, right?

there IS a way to make sure the virus is permanantly KNOCKED off you system.... but you migth not like it.... a format this erase EVERYTHING so you basically starts back with a clean PC the downside is.... you lose everything.... on the other hand IF you have a backup file prior to the virus attack you can Always try it

Ok, so I watched over while it scanned in safe mode. Eventually, a window popped up while the scan was still going saying there was an error and that I should save my work blahbalbha, computer is shutting down in a minute. I tried taking a screenshot and saving it but it didn't transfer over when I logged back on.

Re: 2142 Crashes computer upon startup

Well, I haven't been able to get 2142 to work. Now when I try to launch it, I end up getting a blue screen that says something like DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also even tried downloading the 2142 demo to see if that would launch, and it also gave me a blue screen. Another thing to note is that when I scan with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware in safe mode, I get a message after a while stating that "DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly," and that the computer is restarting in a minute. This does not occur when scanning in regular mode.

Has this happened to anyone here?

Does this happen to only BF 2142 or does this happen to other games? If you have any that is.

Just 2142. Everything seems normal on my computer, except what I stated above.

I have used the System Restore to handle a couple of nasty infections.

Barring that I would break down and do a full reinstall of windows - after formatting the drive.

Sometimes the tactical nuke is the only answer - look at it this way, after the ordeal is over you are guaranteed to have a clean system. Get a spare hard drive and backup your fresh system, then you can use that if it ever happens again.

Anyone who writes a virus should be disemboweled very slowly - in public.
