This last week = constant client crashes
For the last several days i have had just constant client crashes
I am not talking about the normal level of client crashes where the server causes half of one side to all crash at the same time, its not the server thats causing it, its something else
I am talking about crash every 15 mins, a crash that requires a hard reboot
Yesterday I must of crashed 8-10 times
Today I uninstalled (including clearing the registry) then reinstalled everything (os=xp) (inclusing updating pb) and it didnt fix things
I hear people on teamspeak saying they are crashing lots too
What is going on ?
Any ideas on how to fix it
Thanks

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
See the other recent threads. It is apparently a PB buster issue which no one has been able to solve.

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
Interesting thread here
http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread....rt=30&tstart=0
I dont think its my client
I dont think its TG server or any one server
its either EA master server or pb, of those two I would put money on the EA master server being the culprit
I also think this will suddenly seem to fix itself, for everybody, in a few days

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
Master server playing up is an interesting thought.
Draeh tested playing on a non-pb enabled server though, and was able to play crash free. This would indicate to me that it's a PB issue. We'll just have to wait and see though. In Order to Dance

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
I was having the same troubles all of the past few days Silver...
Oddly enough I was able to play today with no issue. I didn't even reboot since the last time I crashed. The only things that happened between successful and unsuccessful play was some forum browsing, flash games, and installing Steam...
I doubt Steam fixed the problem, but if the problem is client side, that's the only change I made. *shrugs*
EDIT
You said you had to hard reboot. Did you try using the KillBF2142 script Lorax wrote up? Kicking off that script would bring me back to the desktop. Just bind it's execution to a keymap (I have the G15 so I just use G1 so I don't accidently press it), and it'll kill the process for ya

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
Silver,
It is a PB issue. It has nothing to do with your machine. When it started it was affecting BF2 as well. Yesterday the BF2 world slowly started to work again. As pred said his has started to work again. As of last night (7pm EST) mine still did not work. Also, you should look into the kill script that is in this forum. That script has worked like a charm for me and has allowed me to skip the hard reboots when 2142 locks up. Hopefully the 2142 world will get cleaned up today like BF2 got cleaned up yesterday. I haven't been able to play 2142 since Monday night.

Same here, freeze 5 minutes into the game. Decided to try winblows 7 and all is good, fasted reboot Ive ever had. Seems like they took out a couple thousand lines of code from vista and might have accidentally came up with a winner, well as far as winblows goes. (Im to lazy to run linux stuff) From what I have read around the WWW it seems to be a PB issue. tonight will tell.

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
I had this too for a few days now... Went online yesterday because my bro just got this game, and I wanted to play it with him. From what I've heard, there are 3 easy solutions that with any combination of them could help the average user. Here they are...
1. Update Punkbuster... search for "PBSetup" in google, then download the file. Open the file, go to add game, select the directory of BF2142, and then "check for updates." This will bring your PB client up to current version.
2. Delete that radial file; there are many posts here inthe FAQ forum about it.
3. Disable the VOIP for BF2142... I have read in many places that the in-game VOIP is very unstable and comes into conflict with a lot of common processes the average user has running in Windows.
Hope that helps. After doing the PB update, I was able to run BF2142 fine. My Voip is still enabled, and as a side note, I did kill several windows XP processes via Taskman that I didn't need while playing BF2142. Some of them were...
-3rd party printer software
-Windows firewall garbage
-3rd party VPN software
My uneducated guess was that something in the game (and it seemed to be happening when I use my commorose) was having address errors trying to secure resources for itself that some other windows processes were already using.

Re: This last week = constant client crashes
Well, I was having issues the past couple days, but yesterday was terable. Wasnt able to try it out today, as I decided to get everything for Arma downloaded and setup instead of crashing and rebooting every other round. Guess I will try it out sunday and see if its working again.
