Bizzare connection issue
I keep joining servers with great ping times, then randomly I'll find myself going from 40-70ms ping to an insane 700-1500ms for no apparent reason.
I can't figure out what I could possibly have set wrong to cause something like this.
I'll be fine for an hour on a server, then POOF! PB kick for high ping. The next server I'll go 5 mins. Or 20.
-_-

Re: Bizzare connection issue
Are you on a school connection? I've noticed this with my school connection. I'll have pings of 16 then jump up to 900+ for about 5 seconds, then back to 16 for another 20 minutes or so. It only happens to me on the server (TG), I've watched the player screen when it happens to see everyone's ping.

Re: Bizzare connection issue
Nope. This is my home internet connection (Comcast -_-) and BF 2142 is the only game I experience this in.

Re: Bizzare connection issue
My router should be fine...I can play just fine until the internet just completely and randomly blows up. So unless you know what router setting could cause that, (because I don't) it's not that.
2142 is already exceptioned in windows firewall and DEP. It doesn't work at all without that in Vista 64

Re: Bizzare connection issue
Stop downloading porn at the same time. Take a break.
Torrents. Have you been seeding or downloading recently? Did you stop all transfers and give it a few minutes before firing up 2142?
Your router could be biting the dust. Before mine died it also started to behave erratically. Try bypassing the router and connecting directly to the modem - yes, even if you are pretty sure, just rule it out and move on.

Re: Bizzare connection issue
All torrents are paused when I fire up any online game, if not shut down completely. Like I said, I can play fine for an hour, then out of nowhere ping goes nuts.
And for the record, none of my torrents are porn. Right now.
I'll give bypassing the router a shot next time I play, but forgive me for not holding my breath...I'm just hoping someone who's actually had this problem will answer with a definite solution

Re: Bizzare connection issue
Removing router does nothing.
Again, this ONLY affects BF2142.
The answer is out there, one of you is just hiding it from me!!!

Re: Bizzare connection issue
After you stop the torrents and before you fire up 2142 check your network activity. You can do that by using the three finger salute (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and looking at the networking tab to see if there is activity and of what sort.
Where are you located, geographically speaking?
Have you tried to ping a few IPs to see if and where there might be a bottleneck?

Re: Bizzare connection issue
If those were the issues, would it not be a constant connection problem? As I've said over and over again, it works just fine 95% of the time, it just randomly bombs out on me in the middle of a game.

Re: Bizzare connection issue
Could be software, it IS BF2142 after all.. try a full uninstall/reinstall (steps found in unmodified content error sticky) + same for Punkbuster.
