problem connecting to master server
My mate is playing bf2142 which he purchased through the EA website download, XP version, as his old CD game was getting scratched.
However he cannot log in, on trying he gets a message saying "problem connecting to master server"
Ocassionally he randomly is able to log on after at least 30mins, but capable of only playing single player off line ......... at which point a message informs him "connection has been detected try logging in to EA server again" which when you try you get back into the circle of having problems logging in.
AM2 6000+
4gb ram
HD4870
XP sp3
Tried all the usual stuff, unistall / driver check / updates / new profile ..... none of course make any difference.
Does anyone know what the cause is, and how do we solve it?
Cheers

Re: problem connecting to master server
i have the exact same problem and its driving me mad! signed up here as its the only place i have found so far that even mentions it?
problem is the exact same as you describe, starts normaly then goes to log onto teh EA master server and just hangs, connection usualy times out but sometimes can get the single player mode with the 'a connection has been found do you want to connect' message. which never works
i have been playing this game for years and this just suddenly happened one day about 3 weeks ago.
so far i have formatted my hdd, reinstalled, downloaded a new version of the 1.50 patch, updated PB and even bought a new router
NOTHING works, sent a message to EA 2 days ago and still nothing
i did get online once about a week ago and had a ping of 800 for about a min and lost the connection again, wtf is going on? is it my service provider? (AOL) gone on a blitz and blocked all EA traffic.
got a D/L of 7mb 400kp up and everything works fine, just 2142
please help!

Re: problem connecting to master server
Yep, exact same problem here. I can still connect to and play BF2. I can't even log into the BF 2142 web site, let alone the game. EA Support responded to me and told me to turn off windows firewall (it was already off) and remove other software / hardware firewalls (already had done so). Completely useless, I had told them I didn't have a firewall in my e-mail to them. Well, at least this is up there on google search results.

Re: problem connecting to master server
changed to tiscali and not had a problem since, AOL blocking traffic was the cause
