No DVD Error!
I'm getting the "no DVD" error when I try to run BF2142.
I've already done the following:
- closed all non-Windows background processes/programs
- disabled AVAST
- added exception for 2142 to Windows Firewall
- did a complete uninstall and reinstall
- patched to latest 1.50 patch
I'm running Vista Home Premium X64 with 4 GBs of RAM using 1280 x 1024 resolution @ 72 Hz.
It's been quite a few months since I last played 2142 on this rig, but last time it worked and I got no errors like this one.
Is there a list of programs that doesn't work with BF2142 that causes this error?
I really want to get my game working so I can play the password level 2 unlocks event tonight.Acreo Aeneas

Re: No DVD Error!
First make sure that the disk is in, if it is try checking the Super 'BattleField 2142 fix' sticky.
Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. is a grammatically correct sentence, TAKE THAT GRAMMAR.
Proof? ..ehem..
noun pronoun noun pronoun verb verb pronoun noun

Re: No DVD Error!
I have, it basically says to "shut down every non-essential process using MSConfig". I basically did that but left out any "SYSTEM" processes since some of the ones not listed in the EA FAQ on the No-DVD error are critical to Windows Vista x64. Short of uninstalling every program I have installed (which I won't do just for one game), I haven't been able to get it working.
Is there a more up-to-date No-DVD patch for 1.50 so it will skip the disk check all together? I was only able to find a 1.40 patch at GameCopyWorld.Acreo Aeneas

Re: No DVD Error!
Well...bloody amazing!
I went through every last darn thing I could think of to try and get past the "DVD not in drive" error and well I figured out the cause: "Windows XP SP2 compatibility".
Apparently, when BF2142 is installed onto a Vista PC, it enables XP SP2 compatibility automatically. So when I turned off compatibility mode, it ran the game.
Unfortunately, it now immediately CTDs after the splash screen.
Oh, how I hate you game...Acreo Aeneas

Re: No DVD Error!
First of all, I'm sorry for reviving this thread.
Secondly: I had the exact same problem after deinstalling bf2142 an reinstalling it again so I could play the titan lite mod. I got the error, deactivated compatibility, and got another error. But in my games folder, I had an older shortcut from before I deinstalled the game, and it worked! I checked the difference between the new and old shortcut, and noticed this:
new (not working) shortcut goal:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
Old (working) shortcut goal:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1
Other than that difference, their properties are exactly the same, so I think by adding '+widescreen 1' to the goal line works.

Re: No DVD Error!
+widescreen 1 is a replacement for +fullscreen 1, so both are not needed. You choose 1 or the other based on your screen res/monitor.
