If i put that back in will it work?

Did you use it, then give it away?
If you gave the person the code and he used it, you won't be able to use the code at all.

This is why it is always SMART to register all you EA games CD Keys
Reasons:
1) Make a EA account name and register the CD Key and it will permently be on the EA Games Website. (i.e. i registered my CD key and lost the booklet that it was on and all i did was go to EA.com and it was displayed in my profile)
2) If you loose the game or the CD is too far scratched to be played and your CD key is registered, you can go to the EA store, log in your EA account and easily D2D (Direct 2 Download) the entire game without buying it again and the downloaded games run by far better without the CD in my opinionPlease Be Warned...
