Game simply won't start. At all.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, as well as the latest patch. I have the patch files in my EADM cache, but the downloader still tries to re-download evertime I try to reinstall.
I click 2142, and nothing happens. In Process Explorer, the 2142 .exe comes up momentarily, than closes, comes up again and closes. Nothing changes on-screen. I used to get an error--5580--that I could only find mention of in one place on the internet.
The thread described my problem, and then every single reply just showed: "LOL PWNED! :P"...as if there was code in my browser that prevented me from seing the replies...I know the replies were there, because in the Google search hits I could read parts of them.
Since my last uninstall/reinstall, I don't get the error anymore, but now I get nothing! I checked my event viewer, logfiles, nothing mentions it.
My firewall keeps blocking certain files from coming through on the EAD, even though I'bve told it over and over to leave them thangs alone.
Anyone have ANY ideas? I haven't played for months, and I don't want to just never play again.

Re: Game simply won't start. At all.
I just had a similar problem. I have not really "fixed" the problem per say, but I was able to start the game up after a couple of times. My problem was that I would put the CD in and wait for the game to turn on, but it doesn't. It was like my computer wasn't even recognizing that I had the CD in. I tried checking for scratches and whatever (only had a couple, but nothing that would stop the game from running), and I put it back in, closed the tray and nothing happened. I tried this multiple times, until finally the game turned on properly. So my "sort of solution" is to just try taking out the CD, cleaning it, and try starting it up again. Sorry if I miss interpreted your problem, or if this wasn't any help to you. =/

Re: Game simply won't start. At all.
I DLed it, so I don't have a CD.
Now I have problems way beyond that---tried to get my complete shut-off for my firewall (Comodo) so I could make sure it wasn't interfering with the re-install, but it wouldn't listen to me since I wasn't logged in as admin. Instead of finding out what I needed to do to log in as admin, I tried to change the log-in of that services, and the one it was dependent on--RPC.
Now RPC won't start because it has the wrong log-in, which I entered after I went to the advanced tab in the service console and saw I could choose my profile as the log-in.
Now I'm trying to re-set the RPC service outside windows because it won't start, so I can't access it to change the log-in back, AND system restore relies on RPC so I can't us that either!
That Advanced tab has gotten me into more situations, I swear...

Re: Game simply won't start. At all.
I'm just going to throw some (maybe) useful stuff out there, even if they might sound a bit obvious:
- Try restarting your computer.
- Get the right log-in information.
- Not sure if a system restore could reset the settings.
- Sometimes these firewall services create a backup of all the previous settings, so you could maybe use that.
- There are ways to shut down firewalls (viruses usually exploit stuff like this this), I wouldn't know how to off the top of my head.
- Sometime's programs and other things use a default username and password, so you could try to find the right default stuff on the internet.
I'm pretty obvious to any possible way to help you out. Sorry. I would wait until someone posts a second opinion before doing anything because I'm not even sure if what I'm saying is a possible solution or not.
