BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
Since nothing else has worked I thought I would tap the incredible resource of human discussion. I am having a VERY difficult time getting Voice Over IP to work for Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition. I have contacted EA customer support and they where clueless. I tried reinstalling it several time as well as editing the registry with two different programs. I understand that VOIP is key in TG and want it to work! I have NEVER heard any VOIP message before.

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
Sorry to hear you're having VOIP problems. So you're saying you can't hear anyone speak over the in-game VOIP? Are people able to hear you?
At the risk of stating the obvious (EA support has probably gone through this with you already, but let's get that out of the way first), did you enable VOIP in your audio settings?
And that "transmit" and "receive" are set at 100%?

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
Yes I have tried that, the settings are reset when I go to a different option and then return. This only affects the right side of the divider in pinkypig's screen shot above. Thanks for the help.

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
Hey guys, just to clarify...
I know Tarmus in real life, we are friends, and go to school together. Here is his situation.
He does not have a mic, but has a good computer, and good speakers, and has most settings set to High. His audio is configured properly as far as I know (Same as mine) and I get VOIP perfectly clearly. The only difference: I have XP, he has Vista...
He can join a game, select kit, spawn, shoot, ressuply, get shot, get revived, get shot, get revived, get shot...(joking), but he cannot hear anyone talk over Voice IP. He can hear all other in-game sounds, but sadly, cannot hear your beautiful voices ordering him to enter meatshield position in front of the walker that is taking your squad down. But that's what squad-members are for
Answering Silver's questions -
Tarmus does not have a mic
He does not have any other games that support VOIP
I will tell him to test this (listening to conversation, if he can hear any)
As of now, we play on the phone together, and I tell him what the squad is saying. This obviously doesn't work very well.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
One idea might be to get him on TS sometime and see if he can hear us (might have no relevance to ingame VOIP, but it's worth a shot).

Call me stupid, but what exactly is TS?
I can also verify everything Demon has posted on this thread.

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
TS is short for TeamSpeak -- it's an external application we use to talk to each other while ingame. You press a button, and everyone in your channel can hear what you're saying.
Of course, you need to install it and configure it. Look up -- see the main tab with "Home" "Forums" "Games" and all that? Click on Resources, and then on TeamSpeak.Fight!

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
OK, I went to the TeamSpeak website and there where four download options for windows. "TeamSpeak 2 Client", "TeamSpeak 2 Client (Updated Executable)", "TeamSpeak 2 Server", and "TeamSpeak 2 Server(Updated Executable)". Which is the one I want? Thanks.

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
Well, Demon helped me acquire team speak, but when I tried to set it up I got some error about an audio driver. What does this mean? Thanks.

Update your audio drivers and see if that helps.

Re: BF2142 Voice Over IP Trouble
The error window reads exactly this: "TDSoundIn.Open: No sound driver is available for use."
I have tried updating my sound card's driver using device manager, but it messed up other audio settings.
For the record: I have a dell XPS desktop. I will contact Dell support about this issue as well.
Also, this is the SECOND game to have sound issues (Battlefront 2 crashed if the sound card was enabled)
Thanks for all of the great suggestions (especially TeamSpeak).
