So if my disc is uber-scratched...
What can I do to fix it without having to pay anything??
I cannot play bf2142 until it becomes clean again...

Note: My comp doesn't know the disk is there; the startup doesn't load or anything.

well... err not sure. i think there was something that could partly repair scratches but im not sure if its even real. Try getting some of the dust(if any) thats on it and see if that helps.
Other then that you'll probably have to get it repaired or just get a new one|TG-Irr|CrazyDengoru

My brother had the same problem with BOTH our disks (which both run fine for me). He used Daemon as well.
Works like a charm, so he tells me.Put yourself out there and you'll be feeling the TG love quicker than you can say "can I come in sniper"! - Jazy

In case that doesn't work for anyone, I heard that toothpaste can help with scratches. I tried it, but my CD is so messed up that I didn't see too much of an improvement. People do rave about this method though.

Hey Penguin, I am sure you can D2D it from the EA website too. All you need is to have the game registered I am pretty sure. I will do some research for you and post here with my findings.
