Computer Blue Screens on Launch
So today my computer started blue screening on 2142 launch. This happens with no other games I've tried.
The blue screen error message is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Common sense and a google search suggest it's a driver issue (or possibly a RAM issue). I updated my graphic's card driver with no luck. I also reinstalled the 1.5 patch, but nothing else so far.
Again, this only happens with 2142. What happens is I launch the game, it goes to a black screen for a while, then I see the little arrow that you get to select your account login/character for a brief second, and then it blue screens.
Any suggestions? For some odd reason I my system restore was off, so unfortunately, I cannot try that.
Thanks

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
If your resolution has been changed in game to 1 your monitor does not support it will give you a blue screen.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
Found only one google link where it was resolved but it seems this error can come from any driver and in this it was from modem...

And what operating system were you running?

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
I run XP, sorry. I'll try that tonight. I hope it works. It's just weird that 2142 seems to be the only thing that causes it.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
This is most likely a driver problem. There is not enough information about your system posted, so advising exactly what to do is impossible. I will try to present a high level view of what you need to do ( at least for Nvidia but the process will work the same for ATI).
If you are running Nvidia, simply reinstalling the driver will not work. If you recently upgraded from one driver version to another, you may be caught with mismatched driver versions, which will cause this problem. I have had this myself before. 2142 crashes can corrupt some video driver files, or if you run SLI mode, it can corrupt some of your SLI video drivers which will cause this problem. Reinstalling the driver will not fix this problem for various reasons. In either case, the only solution is to wipe them out and start over.
You will need to download a tool called driver sweeper to remove all the Nvidia left overs. You can get it from www.phyxion.net
I use version 1.5.5 and it works fine.
After you have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers from control panel, run driver sweeper Analyse and clean to remove the left over Nvidia drivers it finds. This will wipe out your Nvidia drivers completely. You can now start fresh.
If you run SLI, then you should download the latest nforce SLI/Video driver combo from Nvidia that matches your SLI chip type, or run it from the disk that came with your mobo. Install this combo only and run your system. The video driver is not necessarily the latest version but the 2 are designed to work together. If you have a driver issue ( rather then hardware ), this should clear up your problem.
If you don't run SLI, get the disc that came with your video card and reinstall the drivers from there. Yes they are older versions but you know it will work with your system. Install from the disc first. Afterwards, if you find your system is working properly, then you can look to upgrade the driver. The idea is to get your system back to a known working version of software before you do upgrades.|TG| RoadWarrior

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
i shall try this. for more info on the system:
XP 32 bit - home
5000+ AMDx64 dual
XFX Geforce 9800+
4 gb RAM
10k rpm raptor hd and two external hard drives connected via usb
logitech g15 keyboard/g5 mouse
nostromo n52 speedpad
logitech headset hooked up via usb.
I also run my monitors in dual monitor mode, if that makes any difference. I will say though that my computer works fine for everything except 2142 so far, and I don't recall doing anything drastic to my computer before this started happening.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
no luck.
By the way, I've also run a full virus scan on my computer and nothing's shown up.
EDIT: Running memtest on the compy now. will update as I know you all are very concerned.Last edited by Zoraster; 06-22-2009 at 10:06 PM.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
ran mem test. It took forever, but no errors that I saw. I'm going to reinstall the game (it tells you something that i'd rather run a memtest than go through the pain of a 2142 reinstall), but my hopes are not high.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
The reinstall did not work. I feel silly reformatting my computer to play one game, but it may come to that. Anyone have other ideas? should i try and reinstall other drivers?

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
go to your 2142 launch icon click properties and than in the target box, mine says this ""C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900" yours might say fullscreen 1 instead of widescreen 1 and probably wont have anything after that unless you have already done this, but anyway type " +szx 800 +szy 600" (without quotes) or another resoloution you know will work. has to be typed correctly with spaces

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
Wow that same thing happened to me Sunday night. Blue screen on launch. I installed the new nvidia drivers and then reinstalled the game. It's working now. I don't know what caused it in the first place though.

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
The blue screen error message is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This error is usually driver related. Typically a corrupted dll or mismatch of versions.
If 2142 locks up and you have to do a hard reset, any open file handles could get corrupted. Since the video drivers usually have open file handles, it is possible that they got corrupted.
Reformatting your drive is rather drastic. What is the make of your motherboard? You may need to reinstall your chipset drivers.|TG| RoadWarrior

Re: Computer Blue Screens on Launch
My motherboard was replaced recently (as well as the vid card and ram) but it had been working just dandy until the other day.
Motherboard is Asus M4A78-EM
Anyway, I will try reinstalling the chipset drivers when I'm off work tonight... Anything I should know before doing this?
