Help!!!!!!!
Lol, I have searched and read and searched and read and now I can not do either. I was playing with the second soldier earlier today, got the "PB Admin decision" kick. No biggie, second soldier was not entered for the supporting member. Closed the game to take a break....fired it back up about an hour later and I get the black screen, then the normal(for me) 3/4 screen and then to full black again. This is where I wait and the game starts on the login screen....NOT! The game closes and I am left staring at my desktop.
Nothing changed....just will not load now.....

i seem to recall this happening to me before. I don't remember having to do anything crazy... probably just rebooted. although if you're posting here, I imagine you've already tried that.

Yep, rebooted, re patched, deleted the radial files, brought them back, check refresh rate which is 75, checked the date on my computer(had that issue before-if your computer reboots to an older date...like 2002 then the game will not run). I know I am missing something.....

lol, but that is not the problem this time.....just really weird to happen all of a sudden. I didn't do anything except close the game and restart it about an hour later.....UGH!

This happens frequently to me. It stopped for a long time, then I reformatted and it came back. I run XP Pro and bought the game through EA Link (now downloader or something?).
Go to your game folder, find 2142.exe or 2142Pace.exe and BF2142Launcher.exe and set them both to compatibility mode for windows 2000. Launch the game as you normally would. It will hopefully launch.... If it does, close out of the game, and disable compatibility. And you're set! Launch the game and play!
If it doesn't work...
Try restarting your PC with compatibility still enabled, and go through the above and see if it'll work and then disable if it does.
If that's a no go, try restarting without messing with compatibility.
I run into this problem more frequently than not, so after awhile of screwing around like this, the game will finally start. Sometimes it just requires a reboot and it'll work on its volition.
If none of that works, try re-patching with latest patch, but do not uninstall anything. This may overwrite your custom settings/controls.
When doing all of this, have task manager open to see what's starting/stopping. For me, I can see the normal execution of 2142Launcher, then it disappears and 2142Pace.exe appears and then disappears, then the screen does its cycle as you described, and the game never truly launches.
Are you running XP, or Vista? And is it a DVD or did you purchase online?

The profiles are usually in order, but not always. Go into the profile folder and open the Profile.con file using notepad. Top line should be the soldier's name, mine says: LocalProfile.setName "Lorax74"

Running xp and purchased online. I tried the compatibility idea after reading it in the forums...but did not restart after trying it. I did repatch also. Thankx guys, I will be playing with it later.

Yep, exactly how it went for me. I forget how I eventually got it working, but I know its some combination of all of the above. I never had to delete any profiles though, only restart a ton of times and try different stuff out. Originally Posted by MDFubar
Sometimes I found a new, normal shortcut to work the best. My usual one has command line shortcuts to log me into a certain solider, resolution, etc. Try a basic one if you've changed anything.

If you've tried all the previous mentioned ideas I'd delete the profiles FOLDER not certain soldiers. You'll lose keybinds and other settings but it's worth it to get a clean bill of health. You should be able to set everything back to normal keybinds and settings in way less than 10 mins.
