Another VoIP issue
Hello, I can't hear what anyone says in my squad but they can hear me. When they speak I don't even see the transmitting icon... I've looked in every thread about VoIP here and on many other forums but nothing helped solving my problem. I hope that someone out there have a solution 'cause this is driving me nuts.

Re: Another VoIP issue
I dont have a solution straight away,
but please try these three tests and report back
this will help narrow down the problem
test 1)
another game
does voip work in CSS or any other game ?
does it work in BF2 ?
test 2) 2142 voip check
goto 2142 audio menu and test voip there
do you hear your own voice ?
you can also run the 2142 audio test from your hard-drive
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142VoiceSetup.exe
test 3) teamspeak
setup teamspeak
http://www.tacticalgamer.com/teamspeak.php
guide here
goto settings / sound settings /activate local test

Re: Another VoIP issue
Okay, voip works in all Steam games but it does not work in any of the Battlefield games although it used to do before.
I do hear my own voice in the 2142 voice test in game but not in the voice setup but that doesn't work for my friend either and his voip works just fine anyway.
I downloaded teamspeak and did what you told me and I heard my voice just fine there as well and I use ventrilo from time to time and that works just fine as well.
I hope this helps to fix my problem, thx for bothering.

Re: Another VoIP issue
a few more questions (some a bit obvious but have to check)
inside 2142 menus, goto audio menu
VOIP ticked as enabled ?
mic boost ticked ?
when mic boost is ticked, alt tab and goto audio settings and check its also ticked there (under mic advanced) ?
threshold set at zero ?
push to talk button clearly identified and pressed for the test ?

Re: Another VoIP issue
Haha, thx for your concern but yeah I'm pretty sure I did stop it and the problem isn't that my mic isn't working, it's that I can't hear the other players when they speak and I don't see the transmitting icon below the minimap or wherever it's supposed to appear when they speak

Re: Another VoIP issue
Yes, VoIP is enabled. Mic boost gets unticked immediately after I've hit the "Back" button in game. I don't remember what my threshold is set at but I do hear myself (in the in game mic test). As I said before, they hear me so that's not the problem I'm afraid, would've been a lot easier if that was the case :/

Re: Another VoIP issue
I'm sorry, i am running out of ideas here
I have not had this problem personally to see a solution
Hopefully the others TG folk can come up with clever ideas
EDIT
the only last thing i can possible think of is to check that the 2142 audio option of send / receive sliders are at 100%

Re: Another VoIP issue
Well, it seems to me that my problem is in my hardware or software. I tried making a new soldier and guess what? It worked, until I signed off and tried my "real" soldier, found that it still didn't work on that one, signed off and tried the new one again and it didn't work either...
So I removed the new soldier and created it again, same thing this time, worked until I signed off and on again. Tried to completely uninstall the game, removing reg keys and whatnot, but it didn't help. This is by far the most complicated and weird problem I've run into in my gaming career, so far.
Thx for bothering anyway, hopefully this will fix itself when I've got my new stuff.

Re: Another VoIP issue
if it is a soldier thing then try this
1) make sure you have your EA account details written down
2) goto C:\Documents and Settings\PC Home\My Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles
and delete folder 001, 001 etc
3) log into 2142 and retrieve your accounts, this will recreate the profile in my documents

Re: Another VoIP issue
I'm sorry but that didn't help either... It only seems to work when I create a new soldier but then it stops working on that soldier as well as soon as I log off and on again.

Re: Another VoIP issue
Ok, I've tried everything I can think of. I have:
- Reinstalled the patch to the game
- Not got my firewall on (No need..)
- Turned off my torrent application (running on another PC, so just in case it was blocking any ports externally)
- Cleared my 2142 profile folder from My Documents (This makes it work for 1 time, then stops after I exit the game or quit server or something, so this rules out a lot of port/firewall questions, as if they were the problem, I'd not work at all..)
- Changed every sound setting in-game and in Windows 7
- Run windows update..
Now this all worked fine for as long as I remember. I've reinstalled 2142 so many times that I can't be doing anything different there.. I did have both beta patches installed at 1 point, but completely removed and reinstalled each time to get back to current working version.
I'm so sad..
