Re: Battlerecorder files

Ingame:

Once you fullly loaded up the game. Got to "Community" and click on "Battlerecorder". Left side shows the "bookmarks" so every round you played on with BR-running will be listed there (and can be downloaded - if that file is still available). On the right site are the files which you have downloaded. Click them and play them. Ready to go

On your harddrive where to put them:
My path is the following:
C:/Users/Alex/Documents/Battlefield2142/Profiles/Default/demos

If you don't have the demos folder simply creat it and put the files in there. Once your done that return to the top part of this post

Everything's good, except where do I find the Battlerecorder files on my computer?
I'm guessing somewhere in the hidden files.

You find them in that folder that Big-Eye pointed you to. They are in a special format, so you can't just use them as video. You have to play them using 2142's built in software and use some recording program to capture what it is you want to use. Some of the programs that I know of that can be used for in-game video capture are Fraps, wegame, and xfire.

Ok, so I have to download either Fraps or xfire? Which one is better?

Fraps is a program that you pay for. You can get a demo of it that allows you to take 30 second clips I think, but it's like 20 or 30 dollars to buy it I believe. Xfire's video tools is built right into the Xfire program which you can get for free. I don't know much about fraps so I really couldn't tell you what the difference between the two are. I use xfire video for the little bit of video capturing that I've done. There are many here that are much more qualified then me to give you a could answer.

Re: Battlerecorder files

If you want something that is free, I'd recommend CamStudio, which will record fullscreen for however long you want. It has it's own codec you can download from that site but I don't use it. You can change the codec it uses to anything on your computer, so Xfire is on my list anyway.

However, I'd also recommend FFDShow; again, free. Uh, I'll let wiki explain this one:

"ffdshow is a media decoder and encoder mainly used for the fast and high-quality decoding of video in the MPEG-4 ASP (e.g. encoded with DivX, Xvid or FFmpeg MPEG-4) and AVC (H.264) formats, but supporting numerous other video and audio formats as well."

"ffdshow does not include media player or container parsers. Instead, after installation of ffdshow, compatible DirectShow or VFW media players such as Media Player Classic, Winamp, and Windows Media Player will use the ffdshow decoder automatically, thus avoiding the need to install separate codecs for the various formats supported by ffdshow. The user configures ffdshow's audio and video settings by launching the ffdshow video decoder configuration program independently of any media player"

Basically, it's a whole bunch of codecs in one, for all programs, with a lot of video effects that can be applied at the same time it encodes or decodes anything (although I understand very few of them) even on the fly while viewing in windows media player, or at the same time it saves a recording...and is free. So then you can select it in CamStudio and use whichever codec. This is the list I get from FFDShow:

The best for compression, while retaining high quality, I found was MPEG-4 as the encoder, DivX as FourCC. With a bit less compression but producing a windows-movie-maker-friendly file, DivX MP43 was great...it's just a pity because for some reason it gives me these purple splodges and is completely unuseable. I think it worked on my other computer though...

Anyway, that's just in case you're interested...or anyone else is. Oh yeah, and CamStudio can record at 200FPS for some reason XD

hmm...ok, maybe it'll be good to download both.

Another thing, I downloaded Xfire, and I don't know how to open up those BR files with it, do I have to be on the game and press some buttons or something?

You view the BattleRecorder files from within 2142. Do so by following this advice:

Re: Battlerecorder files

Ok the problem I'm having is when I go to videos, there are no videos there.
But in
C:\Documents and Settings\Alexander\My Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles\Default\Demos
I have 5 .bf2142DEMO files there. So my question was, how do I load my videos into Xfire?
Oh wait a second, when it says load the game, does it mean press Scroll Lock and V when I'm actually watching the demo?
(Sorry about the stupid questions, I don't know how this works)

You got it!

You use X-Fire (or fraps, wegame, whichever) to capture (aka record) the game. You could do record while you're playing (live) or you can record from the BattleRecorder (BR) after the fact -or- do both .
