VOIP option won't stay put
Hello everyone!
Apologies if this issue has been brought up in the past, I've tried the advanced search function but couldn't find a thread that corresponds to my issue in this forum branch:
So I'm trying to turn VOIP on so that I can hear others, however I've just discovered to my surprise that each time I turn it on in the options, then head back into play, it goes back to the off position!
I just can't figure out what's going on.
I'm assuming that hitting the "Back" button somehow cancels new changes, but I can't find a button that corresponds to an "ok" or "accept change". I tried several ways of switching out of the menu to head back into the game, but each time, VOIP enabled will always revert back to "off".
Is there any chance someone knows what I'm doing wrong?
This seems to be either highly trivial, and I missed something obvious, or I'm hoping it's not a glitch in the game.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That happens to me as well. I've found that restarting the game usually helps.
I've also found that this most often happens to me after I've played a single-player round.

Re: VOIP option won't stay put
I had a similar problem with tweaking my 2142 settings when I installed on a secondary computer so I could play with my brother. I found after I changed the setting (no "ok" action required), just going back to the Overview screen, then X-ing out of Battlefield did it for me. Don't jump into a round: close the game. Restart your game and check if the settings stayed.

This happened to me too, and when I installed TeamSpeak it said my sound card did not support line-in sound (a microphone) and I had to get a dedicated one for voip to work. If you haven't already, get TS and see if it gives you an error on startup, if so you need a new sound card.

Re: VOIP option won't stay put
Hello!
Actually, I do have Teamspeak installed now, and it is telling me that I do not have a sound driver available for use.
But incidentally, I can hear from the program just fine. While I don't have a microphone, I need only hear right?
Is there no work-around for this problem other than buying a new sound card?
I've also tried SilentSunshine's method to get it to stay, but no such luck.

Re: VOIP option won't stay put
Could you post the error message? Your computer make and model as well as your sound card specs could help clarify the issue. I believe my motherboard sound card was designed to have a line-in, it had a microphone port, but either the driver was out of whack, or the devise was bad. I simply spent so much time trying to get the driver to work and my hardware warranty had expired, so I got a basic PCI Creative card and now my game sounds better too! It was ~70 bucks so try to fix any driver issues befre you think about a dedicated card.
Sorry for rambling.

Re: VOIP option won't stay put
Kind of the same thing happens to me with various aspects of the settings page.
Often when voip is disabled after a server crash, turning it back on again in the settings page won't work as it will simply return to the off position when you leave the page. On the controls page, I cannot change any settings after I've changed them once, they just don't register.
My control problem sounds most similar to your voip problem, so try this: Go on to the sounds page, and make sure you remember your settings. Hit "reset to defaults" and quickly enter the settings again.
This allows me to input new control settings, but it's a pain as I have to remember all my custom controls. It may fix your problem.
