connection problems...
i have an "UMTS-Stick" and a uneven receiving. i just improved the receiving with super special McGiver move!
i took a aluminium shall, which i formed like a satelit-dish around the stick, but its still not enought to have an even ping round about 150-180 on tg-server.
atm i have a ping about 250 and this is not playable.
do you have any tips and tricks to improve the receiving?Ingame: |TG-Irr| Gromkara

Re: connection problems...
Forgive me, Groshak, if I seem ignorant. If I read you right, you have a wireless card and you're accessing a wireless point, yes? Is the wireless point in your house or is it elsewhere?

Re: connection problems...
it is an wireless point elswhere. i guess it works with the towers for mobile phones.

Re: connection problems...
Alright, I see now. The trouble may be congestion using the towers themselves. There's no real way to cure this, sadly, unless you can convince everyone else to stop using them.
The best suggestion I can offer is a Pringles can - a long, narrow cardboard tube. Placing the antenna at the bottom of that and then pointing it around can help you get a better signal, as the tube acts to enhance the signal by focusing what is coming in to the receiver. Beyond that, I'm not really sure.

Re: connection problems...
i will try it out tomorrow, but do you think it will work better the aluminium shall?
it really sucks if you have nothing to do at weekend end can't play.
thanks.Ingame: |TG-Irr| Gromkara

Re: connection problems...
Oh believe me, I completely agree with you on not having anything to play on the weekend. Had my net go out a few times and had no open wireless points I could join, so I was very very bored.
I think it will do as well as the aluminum shell if not better. I've used it before myself and got some good reception on points that were further away as well as an improved signal on points I was trying to connect to. At this point, though, it can't be much worse, no?

Re: connection problems...
they could be good, if there are not many users in your area, who has the same provider.
at home sometimes i could download up to 3 Mbits per second. but here in the barrack, more then 50% have this type of connection, so there are a lot of users i have to share the connection with.
@ vortex: the prigles box doesn't work better.
@PM07: maybe i'm on at december 18th-20th again. have to wait until the other soldiers leave the barrack on weekend to get an usefull connection.Ingame: |TG-Irr| Gromkara

Re: connection problems...
Groshak,
Sorry for my very late follow-up. If you have a lot of users and not a lot of "pipe", then that can be a major issue. Sadly, the only way around it is to get another line installed... if you're an officer this can probably be accomplished.
