Re: Weird server lag?
Tried to play again for the first time in a couple weeks, because I saw the server was pretty full about 9:15PM Mountain Time. I think I made it all of about 7 minutes before the lag kicked in hardcore. Yippee! I finished the round, because it was a close one and I didn't want to bail on my team, but that was it for the night.
Well, back to BF2 until EA gets around to hopefully resolving this.|TG-55| Infantry Division - Captain

Re: Weird server lag?
I have read in various forums an places that when playing on an unranked server with punkbuster disabled that there is no lag, I am not sure about making the server unranked but maybe TG could try turning off punkbuster and see what happens or even make it unranked and disable PB, this might create a lot of work for the admins, but might be worth a try, passwording the server for tests might help!

Re: Weird server lag?
Email To: EvenBalance ( the punkbuster dudes )
Greetings,
I am an independent software developer and a BF:2142 gamer. I am writing to you in an attempt to try and localize and eliminate a problem that has been plaguing the BF:2142 community since late last year.
I am not certain you are aware of the problem, however I am guessing you have heard of it by now. The main symptom of the problem manifests itself as lag spikes that occur at regular intervals, much like hiccups. Theses spikes grow in duration ( by milliseconds ) with each occurance. The only way to temporarily alleviate the problem is by closing the BF:2142 client and restarting, at which pont the lag is absent for an indeterminate period of time ( anywhere from 0 seconds ~ 40 minutes )
Before this problem was introduced, it was typical to have 3~5 'lag hiccups' ( evenly spaced lag spikes of equal duration ) when first joining a server. I noticed this when trying to 'stock' my players kit; attempting to drag/drop items within your kit would fail if attempted during a 'lag hiccup' - I attributed this to a 'handshake' being established between the client and server ( and any resultant PB related initialization procedures )
The lag being experienced now is identical to the 'lag hiccups' experienced when first joining a server.
Furthermore, as an experiment, our gaming community ( Tactical Gamer ) created a server and excluded PunkBuster; additionally, I also disabled the pnkBstr.exe processes ( both A and B ) via task manager prior to joining the 'modified' server. I was able to game normally for the entire duration I was logged into the server.
It is my assertion that for some reason one of the PnkBstr services is losing 'connection' and attempting to reinitialize the 'handshake' - and that this is the cause of the problem plaguing all 2142 servers ( see the forums at EA )
I would appreciate any insight you could provide as this problem is singlehandedly destroying the BF:2142 community - players are abandoning the platform for a more stable gaming environment.
Kind Regards,
- Martha( except I used my real name not MarthaReply From Glenn Courington @ EvenBalance
Thank you for the detailed email Martha

Probably the first letter they got without swearing or blaming them for the problem by being a bad company...lol
