    Trackerball + Sensitivity Hotkeys

I've recently got a trackball for my desk because my mouse was killing my arm. When trying to play 2142 with the trackball I can move, shoot, kill etc but when I get into vehicles and ground mounted turrets the sensitivity seems to be way too low.

    So!

Does anybody know how to change mouse sensitivity on the fly? I'd really like to be able to play the game with my trackball.

in 2142 menu click "options", then "controls". At the top of the screen it has 3 tabs something like " general", "land vehicle", and "air vehicle". You can change the sensitivity for each tab i think.

I want to be able to change the sensitivity with a hotkey. Like if I pressed "+" it'd get more sensitive. This is a feature offered on gaming mice but there's no gaming track balls on the market that I know of.

is a trackball somewhat better? I'm not quite sure if it would help a bit or not, usually my mouse likes to move off the desk and i have to pick it up and put it back which gets to be a pain, but accuracy is nothing, it's a mouse lol. but if a trackball is smoother and you guys all recomend one, i guess i'd have to go try one out :P

trackballs? Tell me, are they better than they were about 5 years ago, because I never found one that was very good for gaming.

Heh, I think myself and Knyghtmare are the only ones that use a trackball. Reaper used to, but I don't think he does anymore. As far as I know the majority of PC gamers will swear with Mice. Indeed, the majority of TGers have mice as far as I know. Unless you're all hiding from me.

i just looked it up and how do you even use that thing? hhaha :P and for your problem it looks like alot of the track balls have side buttons like gaming mice, maybe you can make one of those a hotkey? and did it come with a driver of somesort? if so look around on there and maybe it has a option for a hotkey for what you want.

I think you'll find mice are better for FPS. I know trackballs tend to be preferred by people who do professional sound and video editing, but those types of precise movements aren't necessarily going to be of great help in game.

My mouse has buttons to adjust sensitivity on the fly (it changes dpi) but I'm not sure there's a way to adjust sensitivity on the fly in 2142 outside of that. Perhaps check to see if your trackball allows you to do so?

I use this for my right hand:

    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/mi...s/166&cl=us,en

    And this for my left:

    http://www.saitekusa.com/prod/cyborgcommand.htm

The cyborg thingie has an analog thumb stick you can program to be a "second mouse". I have it set for quick movement and my trackball for precise movement. With a little practice you can work them both at the same time for some pretty nice results.

Maybe you could make some sort of macro to change sensitivity?

Lol, you could buy like 3 tracker balls and have them all set at different sensitivities? Yes I know its a dumb idea.

I have a logitech trackman and this solution works ok for me. I have tried to find software for on-the-fly adjustments but none work in 2142

There are loads of posts on the logitech website requesting a gaming grade trackball. Maybe all us tracker geeks should go there en masse and swamp the forums with our demands until we're either banned or get what we want!
