Some researching into various things turned up how the the away bonus works.

You slowly accumulate 'away time' whether you are playing the game or not. It's some rate determined by EA- I don't know exactly how. When you play the game, you consume this 'away time,' and every round where you still have some left, you get a 50% away bonus at the end of the round.

Simple, no?

I've found out some other curious tidbits too. Like the win bonus counts towards your command score in Conquest mode, but not in Titan mode.

Edit: Actually, that's not quite right. You accumulate the bonus points in game, so long as you're still in your 'away bonus time.'

Meh, I don't know how it really works, but I've only accumulated like 50 away bonus points thus far, so I don't think the away bonus is too much to count on for our rank ups lol.

Although that is interesting to know...EA and their "unknown" algorithms for some of these point calculations are just hilarious.

Perhaps they spent a little too much time on their point calculations. Maybe that's why we have so few maps.

It seems that the longer you're away, the more games you'll be awarded away bonus. After several games, your away bonus gets smaller until you don't get any bonus. I didn't play for a weekend and got away bonus when playing again. It seemed like pretty big bonus at first (~20 points for scoring ~50 during the round). Then a couple games later it was very small (4 points for ~50 during the round).

Well, the code is pretty simple (all the scoring code is in python and can be read), and goes something like this:

if player.timePlayed < player.awayTimeLeft: player.awayBonus += points / 2

And that gets run every time you score some points in the game.

Lol. One would think EA would try to award players more points for playing more not less (so they can get those users to buy their next release(s)).

You don't get a lot of points by not playing. The most you can get is half of your round score. Plus, you'd have to not play to build up away time. That would be soooo boring! lol

Yeah, now that I think about it, it's to balance out most of us university/college student who can't game as much. This way, we have a fighting chance versus those 14 years that play 2142 like 12 hours a day every day for the past 4 weeks.

It is so ungodly how many hours some players put in. I'm averaging 1.5 hours a day. Some have 6+ hours a day. I just can't game like I'm 18 anymore...

This is true. I only get to play once or twice a week, and it saddens me to get pwnced by 1337 h4x0r5 because they have no other priorities in life. Or... they just ignore them.

Man I HATE being unemployed!

I still have some things left to do that I can't go do right NOW before I'm able to complete the final step that will finally get me working during the weekday again.

3 months straight of not working at all wears you REALLY thin.

hmm...does the away bonus work for only the single account or individual soldiers? cuz i was away for about 3 weeks and when i come back, i keep on getting points on one soldier, and when i switch, my points aren't restored, they just keep on getting smaller...
