Assigning key controls

well im glad im not the only one with this problem ! every time i load game i have to reset keys ! real pain ! so i looked on BF2142 form and many others have this issue ! "I logged a support ticket about this with EA and you know what they told me? That the game doesn't support binding to mouse buttons, shift keys, control keys, alt keys, etc... How retarded are they? Some of the default binds are those keys. No idea what it takes them to actually log something as a bug. "

I have the same issue, but only when reassigning the basic movement keys.

In prior BF games, you could edit the controls.con file to force your commands to stick. I'll take a look at the 2142 version when I have some time and see if that's still possible; there have been significant changes to the files sine BF2, so it may no longer work

So if anyone knows how to fix this plz post ! thx !

Re: Assigning key controls

Try editing the controls.con file. Although, I think someone else here tried it and it just made the key assignments blank when checking in game.

I have had some luck reassigning some commands. My mouse's thumb button works for VOIP. The middle mouse button works for map but doesn't work for switching to specific weapon slots.

It's all bugged and EA is not acknowledging the problem. Hopefully somebody can find a workaround.

My middle mouse button works for specific weapon slots... and I didn't even have to do that one in the .con file.

I don't know why it doesn't work for me. Maybe it's the Logitech drivers. I can assign it but the key doesn't stay assigned when I get into the game. I don't even bother anymore.

Something else to wonder about is I lost all my key assignments when my power went out while gaming. I didn't make any changes so I should have had my key assignments from the first time I assigned them. They were reset to default the next time I played.

Re: Assigning key controls

Man, i reassign almost 90% of the keys.... i move thre WASD movement to ESDF.. that give me more keys to hit with my pinky and ring fingers for keys... been doing that ever since Starsiege Tribes 2

(edit)
NOTE: I don't not experience this guy's problem. I just mod my key binds.

Re: Assigning key controls

Hmm...I don't experience that problem. Have you guys tried, binding them through the ingame CP, then logging off of the game, and a complete system restart?

As far as I know, the control.con file format is the same. I use a zboard fang and I did not feel like redoing all my bindings for 2142. I copied my BF2 control.con file to the BF2142 profile folder. Everything works, including my thumb buttons (MX518 mouse). I use XPs native drivers, not the Logitech ones. Of course, I backed up the default control.con file.

Re: Assigning key controls

I use RightMouse for forward and Alt for back, and I have to reset those two keys every time I play.

If you think that's weird, you should see what some other players use. Some TG'ers have some crazy configs!

That's almost teasing you. Actually, it's cruel since you need those for movement. I'd probably change my keys every time if the one or two key assignments I want would stick after exiting the controls menu. Well, I guess I'd be too lazy to do that.

I use RMB for forward too, my friend, and I have to reset every time as well. Bah. I had it figured out in BF2 with a bit of control.con editing but I haven't had the time or patience to try it yet with BF2142.

Should be the same for BF2142.

Section is called: «ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap».

This is where the default bindings are kept.

If you delete an entry, you remove the default value.

That looks to be RMB:

ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIAltOk IDFMouse IDButton_1 0 0

That should be correct because left mouse button is Button_0.

Re: Assigning key controls

I edit all my controls in the controls.con file and they all stick even the mouse buttons. It takes a few minutes but onve it is done it is worth it. I have my defib as my middle mouse and if it wasn't there I would probably die a lot more trying to reach for the 5 or 6 button trying to get it out.
