2142 doesn't start up any more.

In EA Link I start 2142 and I see that the BF2142Launcher.exe launches, then the bf2142.exe launches. Then both quietly exit.

Can anyone help?

Yes, mine does this all the time. The solution is to set BF2142launcher.exe and BF2142pace.exe to windows 2000 compatibility mode. Right click on the file then click the compatibility tab to do this. Now the game will start... once the game starts, leave the game then turn off the compatibility. Now you are good to go until it randomly decides to do it again. cool huh

Yeesh, I hadn't heard of that bug before. Hope they fix that with 1.10 final.

I had the same problem. I had to delete my 2142 profile under My documents/Battlefield 2142 (remove the Battlefield 2142 folder). However you will need to reprogram your keyboard/sounds settings ingame again after this.

I had the same issue and I randomly discovered the Windows 2k method above and it seems to work. Happens every few weeks to me.

Just curious, those that it happens to, do you use BF2142pace.exe to start up battlefield or the launcher app?

It's happened twice to me. The first time I was using bf2142pace.exe. The second time was shortly after a reinstall and I had just changed the shortcut to use bf2142pace.exe. I'm not really sure if it's related to the executable.

I think it has something to do with using pace. The reason being is that the second time it happened to me the compatibility fix did not work initially. I actually had to open EA Link, then use the compatibility fix, then it worked. I know launcher always keeps the LINK open, so I'm thinking link does some kind of validation check every few weeks to authenticate your install. If it can't authenticate I think it does something behind the scene to make the game not run.

Just a theory, but it definitely has something to do with EA link. Which is why I was wondering if people who this was affecting were not using the launcher.exe.

When this starts happening and I try to run the launcher.exe, Link doesn't connect. I have to open link manually to get it to connect and even then the game doesn't launch. I have to do the win2k compatibility to fix it. Everytime it happens though I have been using the BF2142pace.exe

Maybe it is the problem. I haven't had it at all and I've been using the launcher.

I have the problem again and no amount of reinstalling, setting compatibility or swearing solves the problem. And I payed for this!
The kicker is that I painstakingly type in an error message at EA support and when I click submit:
