Isn't punkbuster a and b vital to keeping you in game? Correct if I'm wrong please.

Yes maybe but if you can get the game loaded then you can tab out and start the processes again.

I have had issue with this before. What is causing it is EA's security on the disk. As best as I can tell, it looks for the highest lettered optical drive on default. So basically, if you have a virtual drive, (alcohol, Ultra ISO, ect.) Uninstall it and BF 2142 will work just fine.

Believe it or not, i am still getting this error and none of the tips in this thread seem to be helping.

I bought 2142 a year or two ago and played it a lot, then stopped. I recently wanted to pick it up again (and it loaded fine about a week ago), but I realized i needed the new patch 1.50, so i download and installed that. 1.50 caused the game to crash constantly so I decided to reinstall and try the incremental 1.50 patch.

Now I can't even load the game because I get the "Please ensure your install disc is in the drive and click ok to retry" error every time after the splash screen pops up... I have the same DVD drive with the same drivers and have installed no virtual drives, or anything else for that matter other than battlefield. I have reinstalled the game from the DVD probably 4 times in the last two days and ALWAYS get this error.

wtf? any ideas?

Try searching for a "no-cd crack" using google,
it replaces the exe file so that you no longer need to put in the cd

ok i had the same problem and i run windows vista (cant remember if you do or not)
when i seen the thing about DLA i opened the start menu thing and typed DLA into the search and clicked on a CD DVD-ROM troubshooting page, it said to uncheck compatiility mode and run as administrator, im pretty sure it was the compatibility thing that made it work though hope i was helpfull

I have been increasingly frustrated with the same problem for months. But guess what kiddies... I found a solution that fixed my problem instantly... I found a site where a guy made a program to start BF 2142 without the cd/dvd in the drive. Just download it, install it, and it works instantly. If it doesn't work on your computer for any reason, please don't hold me accountable. I am going by my personal experience only. It will ask if you have either a black disc or grey disc for the game and you will install accordingly. I hope it works for most of you! Good luck, I know my luck changed... Enjoy
