My friend has just recently bought battlefield 2142. After he installed it and proceeded to play, he got this error message "Please ensure battlefield 2142 Install Disc is in the drive, select ok and restart the application" So he did and the same message come up. He uninstalled it and re-installed. Still same message. He reformatted his computer and installed all the necessaries. Then installed 2142 again and tried to load up the game but that evil message was still there to plague him. I tried everything I know and so has he. EA isnt really doing anything about it and its bugging me to death to figure out what the problem may be. If anyone has any helpful tips or ideas that could lead to the resolution of this problem, please help I'm begging you.

I had the same thing happen. I turned off necessary start-up programs in 'msconfig' and it seemed to work. I had some DVD/CD software running in the background that was interfering with BF2142. Search the EA forums too.

We tried that and once again nothing. I'm thinking we might have to get another drive for the computer. His computer plays BF2 fine just not 2142. This is going to drive me crazy.

Is there a 2142 boot drive image like for BF2? For BF2 I use Daemon Tools as a virtual drive and load a virtual install disk, so I don't need to mess with the original disk. There must be something similar for 2142. I downloaded 2142 from EA Link, so I don't need a disk at all.

Really, the disk check is the most retarded, easy to get around copy protection ever. The only thing it does is hassle legitimate users. The CD key should be enough to prevent un-authorized use. Except for stolen keys, I think it's working fairly well (just a guess based on the number of complaints out there).

I ran in circles with vague EA FAQ help, patched to 1.10, updated firmware on dvd drive, then noticed a new problem with some file relating to DLA. I uninstalled "DLA" from add/remove programs, now it works! But I'm seriously cheesed off about a number of things:
1) answer not on EA site
2) EA support is toll support 8am-5pm
3) IGA adware, punkbuster, game comrade CRAP
4) all the macrovision/drm crap
5) mandatory EA account
6) oh yeah, it gave a very wierd bluescreen after 1 minute in playground

I paid money for this and other EA games, and this crap is getting worse...

I would suggest using the no-cd patch from gamecopyworld. I use this and it doesn't check for the disc so you should be fine.

If he has DaemonTools or another virtual drive emulator software running, make sure he uninstalls it and completely disables it. There have been a number of users having the exact problem when they had driver emulators running in the background.

It seems EA's anti-crack software is responsible for this error (as far as I found out).

Fortunately, I've never had this problem.

I had the problem once and was about to reinstall the game when I accidentally clicked on my PowerISO shortcut and noticed that I had a virtual drive in use, unmounted that and disabled virtual drives and everything worked fine.

Im not sure if this is the same problem that I was fighting with for half year. My DVD drive couldnt find my BF2142. After that it couldnt find any other games. I fixed it with trying to burn into corrupted RW cd and somehow after the computer said it cant burn anything there I could switch the discs and I could play BF2142.
Soon later, this didnt work either, problem was so simple, there was just too much dust and crap in my DVD drive and the lense was dirty.
After buying a cleaning CD (Normal CD with brushes attached to it) every game worked fine and the games loaded up like a dream.

EDIT: Actually, when it first happened I thought my BF2142 DVD was scratched and I got new one for free from EA Finland (Yes, new DVD with CD new cd keys and all, for a rainy day )

Well, I just joined the forum. I noticed this and figured I can offer some services. This, from my experience, is usually happening with AHCI and other related SATA and PATA host bus drivers. I have experienced various versions of Intel’s Matrix Storage driver to work and not. Currently, the recent version 7.6.0.1011 is without issue (for me at least). This will mean also that third party core logics on the motherboard to provide PATA interfaces may have issues as well since most can and will probably have a miniport driver installed by the user.

The symptoms will be DVD is readable and can be installed. However, after installation an insert DVD alert will output. There is no perfect remedy and it seems to be driver related.

OK i solved this by stopping all the processes i didnt need. Like Pnkbstr a and b. Lightscribe etc. Stop all the processes you can and see if that works. We may then be able to narrow it down to a single process.
