Tip: Using your Bluetooth headset for in-game VOIP
If you didn't already know, you can use a bluetooth headset as your mic for the game (like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Go.x=0&Go.y=0).
First, connect the headset to your computer (you must have bluetooth on your computer, w/ either a USB dongle or a PCI cardslot, if you need one, see here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E&N=0&Ntk=all). Once it is connected as either a headset or audio gateway, go into control panel > sounds and audio devices. Change audio back to your speakers (it should have changed to bluetooth by default), and make sure that voice says bluetooth. That's it! I use this method, and it works great, without the frustration of a cord, or big headphones around your neck that you aren't using. |

This sounds like a great idea for people who actually use their speakers. I have built-in speakers on my monitorS, but the sound quality isn't that great, so I just decide to use headphones whenever I use the computer. I don't mind it at all because I'm a serious gamer and I'm pretty much always at my computer, and soon I'll be getting a Logitech headset which goes around the back of your neck! More comforting and less messing of the hair.
![]() Doesn't bluetooth have some type of delay? I'm sure it would be short and possibly unnoticable if there is one, though. |

Nope, no delay. I actually use a bluetooth mouse while gaming, and it works great. Although, I can't do that and the headset at the same time, because, apparently the bandwidth of the radio isn't big enough, and the mouse will go crazy with the other connected.

Oh, I wasn't sure because I've only used Bluetooth for my cell phone and there's some delay there. That's probably simply because of the lack of power coming from the phone.

Re: Tip: Using your Bluetooth headset for in-game VOIP
hey Drain. If you're looking at the Logitech headset with the changable color pieces on the ear phones and it's non USB.... DON'T! I've burned through three of them.
These ones: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...CONTENTID=6339 They are crap. The wiring shorts out (usually for the mic, the speakers stay fine) after just a short time. Now I use these: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/pr...ONTENTID=10012 They are maybe $20-$25 more than the first models, and I gotta say that they are miles above in quality. But, it'll mess up your hair. |

Maybe it's the horribly slow speeds? With Bluetooth 2.0 it's a measly 2.1 Mb/s, yes, it is slower than your internet connection.

Re: Tip: Using your Bluetooth headset for in-game VOIP
I've been using a BT headset for a long time. It's pretty good except for those 6+ hour gaming sessions and getting the low battery beeps in the middle of a game. There isn't any noticeable lag and the quality is fine for VOIP. If there's any lag in Internet apps, it's probably not as apparent since there would be some lag from transmitting over the Internet. TS has varying delays for each user depending on the ping to the server. It makes verbal cues differ for transmitter and receivers by about 100ms.
I don't use it with Battlefield though. Battlefield has horrible VOIP volume control so I usually don't sound very loud over VOIP. TeamSpeak has much better control so I don't have any issues using BT headsets. I'd definitely use it if I had control over where to send VOIP. With TS, I like sending/receiving with the headset and getting game sound through speakers. I hate not getting that with Battlefield. Makes some transmissions hard to decipher. |

The only problem I have with using TS on Battlefield is that it's difficult to use tactics when you might be speaking to members of the opposite team. We should have it set up so that there's a PAC and EU channel, and everyone sets up some hotkeys to switch channels without having to alt+tab out of Battlefield. But, there might then be some people who forget to switch and are trying to make plans with the enemy on accident. |

Re: Tip: Using your Bluetooth headset for in-game VOIP
I think TS is definitely not an option with Battlefield or just about any other game with VOIP. It's far too convenient to have the VOIP controlled by the game. No worries with channel switching.
I've been waiting for more news about TS 3 and it's new plugin capabilities. Maybe it'll have better game support and people can write better plugins to automatically switch channels and such. |

Have you heard anything about TS 3 yet? I've been using TS 2 for a long time now, and I think an update would be a great idea. Maybe TS 3 can have some support for TSO, or built in overlaying so we don't have to run 2 applications in order to see who's talking on TS while playing a game like Battlefield. I also prefer to use VoIP in-game instead of TS mostly because of the RAM conservation. With only 1gig of RAM, it's difficult for me to run multiple applications when playing BF2142, even with my kick-butt new computer. |

Re: Tip: Using your Bluetooth headset for in-game VOIP
There hasn't been much news about TS 3 except that it's being written in C++. It's a big change from TS 2's Delphi code base. Using C++ should allow for better plugins. The devs try to write a blog entry once a month but even those entries don't mention much.
I do like in-game VOIP a lot. It's so much easier when the game handles all the communication. Although, it can get frustrating trying to get around design limitations like the lack of squad to squad talk. Quote:
