Keybinds not saved

Hey all, I was just thinking about picking up 2142 but in the demo the keys would not save for me. Was wondering if anyone knew if it was still a problem?

P.S.- I did search but only found one thread and it didn't have any answers

Re: Keybinds not saved

Do you mean the control configurations won't save? I'm not sure about the demo, but in the full version, it saves automatically as soon as you change the controls. Be a little more specific, and we'll be glad to help you.

Re: Keybinds not saved

When I tried to save my control configuration (keybinds), they would not save beyond the current round. As soon as another round started, the controls I had set would be reset to default. As I said, this was an issue with the demo so I don't know if I would have an issue with the full version of the game but I don't want to spend $50 on a game that I would have to reset my controls after every round. System specs are below. Thanks for any help as I would love to purchase the game for future fragging

My keybinds wont save in bf2142. I want my shotgun/rockets on number 2, which if i change around it does work, BUT after a round or 2 or change sides, it reverts back to the original way.

The screen in controls still says your keybind is how you set it up, but for some reason it dont work, well not for me anyhow

llama, Rock, here's a thought:

- Did you install BF2142 in the default folder ?

- Is the «My Documents» folder in the default location ?

No, i wasn't aware you could do this. I will try this and let you know.

Is there a specific programme you can use to open the file?

I use notepad. As an example, if you want to map your parachute key to spacebar (and keep jump as spacebar):

Find this line:

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_9 10000 0

And change it to this:

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect9 IDFKeyboard IDKey_Space 10000 0

Re: Keybinds not saved

Well as you siggested i opened the file with notepad. Chenaged the following files around.

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_5 10000 0

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_2 10000 0

Right so after first round it reverted back to default controls again.

IM wondering if i got to change this bit PIWeaponSelect2 and leave the bit i changed IDKey_2

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIAltSprint IDFKeyboard IDKey_W 1000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PISprint IDFKeyboard IDKey_LeftShift 0 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_1 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_5 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_3 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_4 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_2 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect6 IDFKeyboard IDKey_6 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect7 IDFKeyboard IDKey_7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_PIWeaponSelect8 IDFKeyboard IDKey_8 10000 0

I think the problems lies with the fact that some weapon slots are dynamic; so BF2142 probably has a default control.con that gets put back. I'll have a look when I get home.

Edit: There is a section called: «ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap».

This is where the default bindings are kept.

Look for these entries:

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect0 IDFKeyboard IDKey_0 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_1 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_2 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_3 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_4 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_5 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect6 IDFKeyboard IDKey_6 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect7 IDFKeyboard IDKey_7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect8 IDFKeyboard IDKey_8 10000 0

Removing an entry in that section «should» remove the corresponding default value, hence allowing you to do as you please. I'll double check my controls.con file when I get home. Of course backing it all up before is recommended

Edit: Just edited my Controls.con and removed the above entries. I was able to remap weapon slots to any key. Changed maps, quit the game, restart, bindings remain. That may be what you were looking for.

Cheers

DB

Re: Keybinds not saved

@Rock. Just to clarify my previous post:

There is a section in Controls.con called:

«ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap».

This is where the default bindings are kept.

If you delete these entries (related to weapon slots), you remove the default values and you can set the weapon slots that what you want (BF2142 cannot reset them to default):

ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect0 IDFKeyboard IDKey_0 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect1 IDFKeyboard IDKey_1 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect2 IDFKeyboard IDKey_2 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect3 IDFKeyboard IDKey_3 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect4 IDFKeyboard IDKey_4 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect5 IDFKeyboard IDKey_5 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect6 IDFKeyboard IDKey_6 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect7 IDFKeyboard IDKey_7 10000 0
ControlMap.addKeyToTriggerMapping c_GIMenuSelect8 IDFKeyboard IDKey_8 10000 0

I was able to remap all my weapon slots.

I changed maps, quit the game, restart, the bindings remained as I set them. That may be what you were looking for.

Cheers
