Just to update (since I made this thread almost a year ago), I'm now playing on a MacBook Pro with Windows Vista. I think that Vista made setting up my mic a lot easier. It was set pretty low, but it was very easy to bump it way up.

I'm using the on-board mic on the computer, which is over a foot from my mouth, and I only get complaints from my squad if I'm deliberately speaking low.

You know, I'm probably the person who's been around the longest and most involved without ever having become a supporting member, lol. I'm not saying I'm proud of it, just pointing it out!
