Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Is vSync on for your graphics settings? That'll drop you a lot if the framerate doesn't meet the refresh rate.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

I replaced the motherboard and processor. Everything else remained.

I replaced my old Gigabyte board with a ASUS board (775 socket) and I replaced my old P4 Prescott with a Pentium D 805 (2.66 Ghz).

No VSync is not on. I haven't had VSync on at all in 2142. I've tried it in other games, and it doesn't boost performance much.

I did test my hardware with a mod on ET (called True Combat: Elite) and experienced the worst and weirdest performance ever. Framerates would go from 90 fps to 0, then repeat, going up and down literally every second. I have no clue what might be causing this. I have checked my GPU's temp, and it floats around 50-52 degrees C.

I'm doing a complete reinstall of BF2142 to see if that might correct the problem. I'm doubting it will.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Did you uninstall all of your old Mobo drivers and reinstall the drivers for the new one?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

I didn't have to. I reformatted for the new motherboard.

Could it be a faulty mainboard...

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Err I hope not. I don't have the cash to replace it or send it back for a replacement. Plus I need my computer for my multimedia courses.

Everything runs stable on the mobo. No crashes or glitches. PC Probe reports normal temperature readings, stable power flow, and such.

Can you post the ASUS motherboard model and BIOS revision ?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Well I tried a complete reinstall. Didn't solve the problem.

Mobo: ASUS P5PE-VM
BIOS: 1002

Did you install the OS with the on-board graphics enabled or disabled in BIOS ?
edit: same question with on-board sound ?

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Well, I just plugged in my AGP and PCI sound card when I was putting my system back together again. Then I went and installed XP Pro w/ SP1. I didn't go into BIOS to disable either. Shouldn't they both be disabled since I'm running dedicated gfx + sound?

Sound, nope. GFX, probably. But you're better off disabling them in BIOS to avoid drivers being loaded and/or conflicts. I'll bet the on-board sound is causing you grief. If you don't want to re-install (although it would be best), you might check in the control panel if you have an entry in the add-remove called ADI audio something or other.

1- Using add remove, remove that drivers/applications/tools;anything related to on-board sound (it's an ADI 1888 codec, if that helps).
2- reboot, go in BIOS set-up and disable on-board sound
3- You should be good to go.

If you have the time, your best bet (and yes it's a royal pain):

1- Go in BIOS disable both on-board audio and on-board video, including setting shared video memory to «0».
2- Re-install.
3- Have a beer, or two.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Well I did go into BIOS just now and disabled onboard sound. Tested BF2142, but still doesn't improve fps.

As for graphics, by having my 7600GS in the AGP slot, it overrides the default onboard VGA graphics adapter.

I never installed any drivers for either onboard sound or video. So it can't be a driver conflict, since there are no other sound or video drivers except for my 7600GS and Audigy LS.

Would the Pentium D 805 be the root of the problem instead of other hardware? I'm just reminded that, I got higher than 15 fps when my old mobo still worked and it had the P4 Prescott (3.0 Ghz) w/ HT. Or perhaps my 7600GS is dying? I so wish I knew how to solve this fps crisis.

The D-805 should be fine, adn your BIOS rev supports it. You may still have a driver related to ADI in there (XP has many codec drivers that will install without telling you). If you don't want to re-install, here's an alternate procedure.

1- Remove your Audigy
2- Enable on-board sound in BIOS
3- Install all the on-board drivers
4- Might as well try 2142 with on-board sound while you're at it.
5- Uninstall all the on-board sound drivers; this will ensure nothing is left behind.
6- Disable on-board sound in BIOS, install your Audigy
7- Test 2142 again.

From experience, I can tell you that leaving on-board sound enabled and installing a sound card is looking for trouble.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

*sigh*

I'll try that after I ship some books to some needy college students.

I'll post back in a day or so and update you on my success/failure.

Re: Why am I getting such horrid framerates?

Well, I just finished testing and trying.

*sigh* No luck.

I'm putting back in my Audigy LS. I'm going to try to see if Creative has a newer driver for my card and see if that helps.

edit: No luck with the new drivers either.

Guess I'll have to wait a few months to get a new video card and putting my online gaming on hold until then. *sigh*
