1.2 Patching Error
I'm very tired, so I'm probably missing something obvious...
I was away all weekend, and only got back to my PC today, saw that patch 1.2 was out so downloaded via EA link. However, when I try to install, I choose my language, then I get an error message that says I have a newer version already installed. But when I try and run BF2142 as normal that brings up a dialogue to say the patch is out and I should download it. If I ignore this message and just login normally I can't join the TG server as I have an older client. Now, I did have Northern Strike Beta installed, and made a copy of my original BF2142 folder then. I've since deleted the copy of BF2142 with the NS update, so only have a copy of my original BF2142 folder. Did that make sense? Can anyone spot my error or suggest a fix? I'm off to bed now, but I'd really like to be able to play on Friday ![]() Last edited by Zhoed; 02-22-2007 at 05:25 PM. Reason: typos - I really am very tired. |

Re: what have I done ?
Not sure if there are any registry settings or DLL registrations that are causing you to get an advanced version to register. The NS Beta is pretty much going to be the culprit. The easiest way to get back in order is Add/Remove all copies of 2142, delete any left over files, check your registry in HKLM/software to make sure all the entries for 2142 are gone, and reinstall unless some one knows someway to get the patch to seek your copy as the app folder (which is usually pulled from the reigstry.)

Re: what have I done ?
Try this, although it's for 1.1, I'm assuming it works for 1.2 as well:

Re: what have I done ?
There's a set of instructions on what to do if you get that error. Check FilePlanet or FileFront's downloading sections for the patch. They should have a link to the instructions on how to edit your registry key to make this error go away.

Re: 1.2 Patching Error
thanks guys.
I guess I was so tired last night I didn't even think of checking this tech support forum. Anyway, all sorted now - I edited my registry so the version against BF2142 was 1.10 rather than 1.19a and then it patched through to 1.20 without a squeak. |
