I can hear the whole battlefield

i am having a bug where i can hear the whole battlefield's actions... arty on the other side of the map.. sounds like its comming down right on top of me.. the only thing that works is directional... stuff to the left... 10 feet or 1000 yards.. sound like they are comming from the left... i restarted the game.. updated drivers.. nothing...

anyone got anything on this?

Re: I can hear the whole battlefield

Try turning off EAX or hardware audio.

EAX was the problem... what does it do?

EAX is for Creative SoundBlaster cards. Your hardware might "support" EAX but it screws up, like mine does if you enable EAX.

Info here

It's marketing clap trap but it boils down to the fact that it's a set of routines that pretty much allows a game to tie a positional world model to the sound card for surround sound generation through hardware. I.E. If there is a guy in the game is 5 feet to the right and back of you then the sound card knows to "place" the footsteps he makes virtually there using surround sound speakers (and to use the sound board processor to make the calculations drawing cycles required from your CPU.) If you don't have a surround sound setup and a creative soundblaster card it's pretty much useless to you.
