yes a new PC is a great idea. in the mean time you can buy battlefield 1942 which should run perfect on your system.

Yes, I have done it to my dell. Upgraded from 512 ram to 2 gig, and changed the video card twice. Even had to change the hard drive.I killed that also...lol

Re: doesn't work...

512 Ram will run the game.

But the GeForce 4xx series is not supported by BF2142. Your game won't run because your card doesn't not have hardware T&L nor does it have advanced pixels shaders.

You'll have to get at least a nV 5700 / ATI 9600 to run the game.

Re: doesn't work...

An NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card with 256MB dedicated video memory delivers best-in-class video for games and multimedia. For the ultimate experience in streaming video and gaming, choose the version with 512MB dedicated video memory. A 17" WXGA high-definition widescreen with BrightView is standard. For higher resolution choose the WSXGA+ option, or go for a home theater viewing experience with the Ultra BrightView. You also get high-quality sound from integrated Altec Lansing stereo speakers, plus two stereo headphone jacks (one of which is S/PDIF capable), which enables connection to your surround sound audio system. The integrated HDMI port lets you view high-definition content on your HDTV (cable sold separately).

Taken from a computer im thinking of buying... are these good for gaming?

Overview of nvidia 7 series moble GPUs

The 7600 is literally the bottom of the mobile 7 series lineup stat-wise. I would spend some time perusing Anandtech if you are in need of GPU information. This article is from the end of last year, and you should be able to get some series 8 mobile parts now.
