Re: doesn't work...

What are your system specs?

Do you have at least 5 GBs of free space available?

Did you install from DVD-ROM or EA Link?

Re: doesn't work...

Couple things you could start by, right-clicking on "My Computer", and then left-clicking on "Properties".

This is assuming your on "XP" at least. Check and towards the bottom it will say something like this...

At least we can get your RAM, and CPU speed off that. For your video card, you should be able to right-click on the desktop, goto properties > once that pops up goto "settings" tab, and it should tell ya your video card.

Harddrive space can be found by clicking on "My Computer" again. Then clicking on your X:/ drive once, more default for alot of people is C:/

The actual requirements for playing 2142.

Quote:
Operating system: Windows XP with latest service pack installed
DirectX 9.0c February 2006 edition (included)
CPU: 1.7 Ghz
RAM: 512 Mb
Video Card: 128Mb DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above.
Hard Drive space: 1.8Gb of space is required to install the game
Internet connection: 128kbit Cable/DSL connection

In order to play the game at the recommended resolution, detail and performance levels, your computer should match or exceed the following specifications:

Operating system: Windows XP with latest service pack installed
DirectX 9.0c February 2006 edition (included)
CPU: 3.0 Ghz
RAM: 1.5 Gb
Video Card: 256Mb DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above.
Hard Drive space: 1.8Gb of space is required to install the game
Internet connection: 512Mb Cable/DSL connection

Re: doesn't work...

Ok so first: 1.60 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM.. doesnt say anything about CPU tho... but it has a 3000+ above the info i just gave...
----------
Second: Video card thing... I have 2 displays... first one:
(Multiple Monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go 64M

Second one: default Monitors of NVIDIA GeForce4 44o Go 64M
---------
Thirdly: when i went to :/c or whatever it didnt show me the space or any info

So... do this mean i can or cant play? (b/c of requirements)

Re: doesn't work...

Go to the start menu, then get to the branch you installed 2142, and there will be a program called "EasyInfo" with the EA icon. Run that, it will analyze your system for specs, and show you if/where you fail. If you fail any part, the game will refuse to load.

And from what you posted, it looks like you don't meet the CPU requirements since you're sitting at 1.6 and it requires 1.7. But, I would run that little program first to make sure.

Im surprised it let you install let alone try and start up.

not enough ram and graphics card power. You need atleast a gig of ram and a 128 card or better.

Re: doesn't work...

Battlefield is a massive RAM hog, its really operates decent with 1GB+. 2GB is highly recommended from my stand point.

Re: doesn't work...

Looks like you've got the same problem as a friend of mine; he installed the game too and it crashed after his intro movie. It's your graphics card, you really need something above 128 mb (nVidia Geforce fx 5700 is the minimum card) but I recommendend a nVidia card from the late 6 series or 7 series and your processor is probably to slow too.

BF2 would run probably, since it has alot less effects on it that 2142 has. Probably just need to lower your settings to low.

BF2 still has player base, but alot of them moved to the top mods out today.

Project Reaility mod, and POE2 mod.

Re: doesn't work...

If I remeber correctly, BF2 also requires a huge amount of ram and more than a 64M video card. I ran a radeon9800xt for three years before it died and due to funding I had to replace with a lower radeon, but still a 256 card. You can pick up some 256video cards fairly inexpensive.
I have found that my system operates fine with 2G of ram and a 256MB video card, also a 160g hard drive. The G-Force cards work great also.

Re: doesn't work...

Depending on the CP and your abilities, you could just add RAM and change the vid card. Many of them are very easy to do. You can save a bunch of money. A couple of hundred bucks and you would be set...
