Severe degredation on my FPS

I am running Windows XP Pro
AMD 4400+ X2 processor @ 2.4 GHz
2GB OCZ DDR400 RAM
250 GB WD Enterprise Series HD
XFX 8800GTX with modified 100.xx series drivers
PC Power and Cooling 750w PSU
X-Fi Xtreme Music Card

Now on to my problem.
As of March 8th when NS was activated through EA link. My framerates were @ or above 45 FPS at the lowest. Now after that date I have noticed a severe degredation on my FPS. With the highest hovering but never going over 25 FPS. Though while I am loading into the server it FRAPS will state the card is rendering 90+ FPS. Though as soon as the customiztion panel displays upon entering the game the FPS will hit and never go above 25 FPS.
I thought I had a bad driver installed. So I went and downloaded the WHQL 97.92 drivers from Nvidia with no luck fixing my low FPS. Second I proceeded to update my direct X hoping that was the issue. Alas, this was not the case.
I am currently trying to download a new driver for my sound card. Due to the fact I am experiencing some constant and persistent noise distortions on 2142.

If anyone has experienced these same issues and resolved them. Please... PLEASE help me!!

Re: Severe degredation on my FPS

Ok I believe this to be some type of audio issue.
For the simple reason that I disabled EAX from ingame.
So my FPS jumped 10 FPS to a steady 35 FPS under heavy action to around 75 FPS while just moving around. I also noticed that when a orbital strike comes in I get some nasty crackling and distortion.

Re: Severe degredation on my FPS

i have almost the exact setup as you with a little better processor but i never get low fps. I have everything on max with a 1920x1200 rez. I used to get it only during an orbital strike but thats when i had a 7800gtx, once i bumped up to an 8800gtx, everything was buttery smooth.

Thats really wierd if it has something to do with audio. I was at first thinking maybe an overheating issue. Make sure your RAM is good too, run some kind of mem test. Also, if you dont already, defrag your HD every week

Re: Severe degredation on my FPS

I have also noted that all my other games behave in a normal fashion.
I even loaded up BF2 since it runs on the same basic engine. I have no problems at all running everything on high while maintaining a 80+FPS minumum.

Note: I have tried reinstalling the drivers for my soundcard. As well as 2142 manually uninstalling all the data, temp files and registry keys. With no luck as of yet.

Re: Severe degredation on my FPS

Check the temps on your graphics card, cpu, and motherboard. Sounds like it might be a heat issue as well.

I wouldn't mess around too much with the drivers at this point. You could complicate the situation even more with all the driver version switching.

Mine also cracks and pops really bad during orbital strikes. It just started doing this when I installed my new sound card (Xfi extreme gamer). If you figure out how to fix it let me know.

Re: Severe degredation on my FPS

I have been noticing ever since I installed NS every once in a while my FPS just takes a dump and the only way to fix it is to restart BF2142. IT *really* screws with your aiming and even if you move to some indoor/small area where FPS would normally be sky high, it still chugs.

Here is something funny to ADD! i have a x-fi system and it runs great in the game, however whenever i put a cd into one of my cd drives, and it starts to read it, i can hear faint crackling popping sounds, but then it goes away. Heh funny.
