Unhappy How do I talk to you?

I've just bought a new headset but I can't talk to you guys - I've gone through the booklet and yet nothing it suggests works - what hot keys do you use to get the dialog started?

Please help - I spent alot of money on this set just to talk to you guys, I hope you can help.

Re: How do I talk to you?

Well, the default button to talk is V.

Kidding aside, have you:
  1. Tried using the mic in an application other than BF2142 (Sound Recorder, maybe) and gotten a sound?
  2. Heard yourself through the speakers when you unmute the mic from your Volume Control?
  3. Tried using it over TeamSpeak and people have heard you?
  4. Configured BF2142 to work with your mic? The BF2 games require you to plug the mic into Mic Jack #1 to work. Also, make sure Mic Boost is on and that the threshold is set at an appropriate level (configured through the Audio controls in the game).

That's about all I can think of to fix. If those don't work, we got some super computer fixy people around here somewhere.

Re: How do I talk to you?

Go to your main BF2142 folder and open 'BF2142VoiceSteup' to get to the 2142 thresh hold test.

Does anyone have a mic brand they particularly like?

Re: How do I talk to you?

I have found that much more important than the mic itself is the soundcard it goes into. onboard sound often has static.

that being said, you dont need to sound awesome, you just need to be loud and clear enough to be understood. for the most part, any old cheapo mic will do.

Alright, on that advice I picked up a decently cheap mic, so if I spend a few minutes at the start of a round double-checking that you all can hear me, I apologize.

no need to apologize. get in a tg squad for the mic check, you have a better chance of getting a response. mic checks are expected at times. sometimes responses are given by numbers to mic checks. loud by clear is the typical way to respond on a scale of 1-5 for each quality.
5 by 5 means loud and clear, 5 by 3 means loud but not very clear. 3 by 5 means soft but clear.

someone correct me if im wrong, its early, and the coffee has not yet kicked in.

Re: How do I talk to you?

okay, I'll share one of my absent minded situations. When I first got my headset and plugged I was pretty upset it was not working. Come to find out I was not pushing the plung all the way in. I pushed it in a little harder than what I thought was necessary and boom, my loud mouth is bellowing out of the speakers. Just make sure you got them plugged in all the way. The speakers worked, which is why I thought the mic should be working but, the mic would not work without being plugged in all the way.
