The other day I was playing for a while on a server then as soon as the new map had loaded it froze. I restarted the computer launche the game and got on the same server once again yet it froze as soon as the map had loaded. I rinsed and repeated and it did it four times whats going on?

BTW: please answer in layman's terms as I am not that hot on computers.

Re: Game Freezing

First, try another server to determine if it is a server issue or a computer issue. Is this the first time this has happened?
Did you change anything recently on your set-up?

Re: Game Freezing

Definitely the first time this has happened and on all servers. Reckon that the graphics card has gone bust or computers overheating as I could play fine with ultra-low video settings. BTW nothing has been changed on the computer recently.

Re: Game Freezing

Well, since you posted on the IPD forums that your computer overheated, I assume you already know the answer now right?

nvm; seems like you edited your post - ignore this one

Re: Game Freezing

Well, after the new patch came out I had some problems with crashing. After spending a week searching for my cd key, i uninstalled then reinstalled, not the repair thing. This fixed crashing for me, and havent had a crash since trying it.

Re: Game Freezing

What sort of crashing was it? I don't thionk it was anything to do with the patch as it would have happened earlier.

Re: Game Freezing

Ive had problems with spy-ware/Adware doing the same thing on an older system. A good house cleaning fixed it real fast.

And if your not "hot" on computers start learning bud, its gonna get expensive down at the store. Lots of online guides to doing just about anything inside that case you have.

Re: Game Freezing

If you have any problems with lag, freezes or a lot of CTDs, I might have figured out a fix for that o_0
At least it fixed my problem (lag and lots of it and freeze after 10 seconds - 30 min of playing) It fixed the same issue my brother had and I think it will help to prevent a lot of those annoying CTDs

First of all, you should make a backup copy of you BF2142 folder, located in My Computer>HDD>Electronic Arts.
After that, make a new folder on your desktop and call it whatever you want to call it.

Warning: It is important that you have NS and 1.25 installed before continuing!!!
Also make sure that the game is not running while doing this

Now open your original BF2142 folder and move all these things to the folder on the desktop:

AIDLL.dll
BF2OpenAL.dll
BF2VoipServer. dll
BF2142Audio.dll
binkw32.dll
dbghelp. dll
dice_py.dll
memory.dll
mfc70.dll
MFC71.dll
msvci70.dll
msvcp70.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr70.dll
msvcr71.dll
PCRegExp.dll
RendDX9.dll
SwiffPlayer.dll
zlib122.dll

BF2142.exe
rotate_demo.cfg
voip.con
generate_md5.py
pylib-2.3.4.zip

Admin
mods
pb
Profiles
python
Settings

After you've done that, delete all the rest, so that the BF2142 folder is empty.
Now move the files and directories I named above back into the BF2142 folder and start the game.

It should now run a lot smoother, and more stable, less CTDs and less lag, freezes and all that.
Should anything not work, use the files from the backup folder to restore everything.

Re: Game Freezing

I wrote that up for some other site actually, but I fixed my lag+freeze problem (exactly the same as explained in the first post) and the same issue for my bro as I mentioned.
You can just do that even if everything runs fine, I found that this stops a lot of those CTDs (crash to desktop)
Feedback appreciated

Btw, this lag and freezing seems to be a common issue with 1.25...

Re: Game Freezing

Pretty sure it's overheating as it played fine on my normal graphics settings with the sides removed (which I know you're not meant to do) very soon after I replaced the sides it crashed once again. Also downloaded speed fan and it showed pc was too hot.

BTW surely deleting those files would count as modified content meaning you yould'nt be able to play online.

No, you can play online, since the files you delete are all useless, for some reason they only crash/lag/freeze your game :S

Re: Game Freezing

Sounds like something is definetly getting too hot, could be the vid card or the Power supply. If you recently upgraded something(like the vid car) and have over extended the capabilities of the current power supply, you will be making it work tooo hard and cuase it to overheat. I fried my 9800xt pro vid card after 4 years of contanst gaming(4-6 hours a day) and the first sign was it overheating.
I was also having some performance issues with some recent upgrades and figure that my psu was insufficient, upgraded to a 550w and the problems are all gone....ie. nothing starving for power nor overheating.
