rendDX9.dll error on startup

First off, I have BF2142 running fine on my Dell desktop, Vista Ultimate, so I know to run as admin, and do manual PBsetup runs to ensure PB gets updated.

Have a new Thinkpad, also running Vista Ultimate, with a 128MB ATI X1400 graphics card. Experiencing the following:

BF2142 Demo - installs and runs just fine.

BF2142 Full Version (downloadable) - installed, updated to 1.25. When trying to run, get a black screen for 2-3 seconds, then get msg from Vista saying BF2142pace.exe has stopped working... Problem details list the Fault Module Name as RendDX9.dll.

I've seen mentioned of the RendDX9.dll error elsewhere, even under BF2, and have tried to re-install DX9, but it says I'm up to date.

Very strange, given that the demo runs fine, but not the full app. Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Meant to mention that, have run the DirectX installer from there. Msg from installer says newer/equivalent version is installed, no update necessary.

Re: rendDX9.dll error on startup

I recently updated my video driver and had the same exact crash as you are stating. I went to nvidia and the fix on their forums was to delete your bf2142 folder in mydocuments. I guess it stores all your video settings and maybe you are getting a conflict with the demo or possibly a newer video driver. After doing this you have to go in and re-map keys and all settings but it did solve my problem. Hope this helps.

I'd try deleting 'My Documents/Battlefield 2142/mods/bf2142/cache' first. That contains the cache so you don't have to optimize shaders every time.

Re: rendDX9.dll error on startup

Dudes! Thanks so much for your help, problem is resolved!

I don't have an nVidia card, actually an ATI x1400 (latest driver and all), but something in that post made me think..

Thinkpad is my new main production system, and I did a complete copy of my User\Documents folder to it - from my Dell desktop, which of course included the Battlefield 2142 folder, etc.

Erased that folder, and I'm good to go. Thanks all.
