Changing service
Hey guys I am buying house this month. While its a 1800 square foot house with a 1 acre yard, I may have to give up cable... Does anyone play with DSL? Does anyone notice a different from cable to DSL?

Re: Changing service
I use Verizon DSL for all my online gaming and have never had a problem. While it is noticeably slower than my parent’s cable connection for downloading files, I can barely tell the difference in games.

Re: Changing service
I used to play with DSL, had very few problems..provider related. If DSL is available in your area, you may want to see if they are offering FIOS also. Verizon is currently offering limited availabilty and I am lead to believe that the fiber optics is much better.

Re: Changing service
Currently playing with 1.5mbps ADSL from AT&T. It's slow by me for some reason. I can only get a max dl rate of 45% of the possible. And about 15% upload of the max possible. Otherwise, it is smooth and playable at an average of 80 ping.

Re: Changing service
DSL will all depend on how close you are to the hub thats providing the service. I got it, and its fairly decent, but every now and then (and too often), I'll see the modem has dropped the connection and it could be anything from 2 mins to a few hours before getting reconnected. On the other side of this, the phone line running into my house is older, so my connection is not as strong as it should be. If FIOS is availbe in your region, do it!! I've heard nothing but amazing things from it, and the pacakges seem pricey at first, but if you look at what the connection speeds are, they are quite attractive, provided you'd use them.
As for cable, always heard if a lot of people in the area used it, it would be slower, dunno if its true.

Re: Changing service
I personally prefer cable to DSL, more reliable and have never had a problem with speed or connection. I always get a ping of 16 to 25 on ur server, now both of them. I am not sure bout the whole more user thing.
