So it started about two months ago while playing 2142, POE2 and PR. What would happen is that during game play at random times my frame rate would drop so low that I cannot aim, move or do pretty much anything. I usually just die I am so helpless. It almost goes down to like 7fps. Almost like a memory leak sort of.

For awhile I thought that it have to do with my computer going into standby because it does it right off the bat when I come out of standby and start playing. So I stopped using standby unless I hit the button by accident. I am using a laptop.

Though it would keep doing it even after reboot after reboot and even after the computer had been shut down for a night or so.

I then started restoring my system back to before it started doing this problem which worked for a bit. I could restore then start right back up and play. Now however it does it even after I restore.

Some days I go without the issue, for instance if I get lucky on a system restore. Though I cannot keep doing that because I am already back to the middle of March when I restore. ahaha.

My laptop meets all that specs for the game and more and actually I played the game for three long months just fine before the issue began.

These are my specs:

My laptop is a Clevo 570U-A
2 gigs of ram
80gb 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
Nvidia 7800 GTX video card
It has a 17" screen with 1440X900 Resolution


I do get the punkbuster error every now and then but usually I reboot and the problem takes care of itself.

Please help me out with this if you know any information at all as I would really like to play but it is very frustrating. Especially on games like PR when you are the only medic and your computer is failing and people are dying.

This sounds to me like a video card problem. I had this exact problem about 2 years ago with Half-Life and discovered that it was caused by my video card overheating and slowly eating itself. My recommendation would be to have your video card checked (specifically the heat sinks) and also check your laptop's cooling system. If either one is malfunctioning, it could be causing a number of internal problems with your computer.

Also check your CPU temps.

I currently experience the same problem, but it's due to a hot room and my Pentium D overheating during intense firefights. As for GFX overheating, I don't know. I have no clue what is consider a "overheat" temperature.

IIRC NVIDIA cards throttle themselves when they get too hot to prevent damage, this could be what you are seeing.

They beat me to it, but this has all the hallmarks of a heat issue. Try and put your laptop on a raised grille to allow circulation under it. Also, check your fans. Gaming is a very intensive operation, and generates a lot of heat.

That makes some sense considering it will mainly happen when there is an orbital strike or a tank fires next to me or even rdx goes off. Thanks for the input and I will get this problem checked out.
