Same here...

I think I can count the number of times I've punished someone on a Tactical Gamer server on my hand.

That is usually what happens to me. However I have been lucky a few times. Guy goes to run into a squad sitting on a flag, this is a whole squad and one lone attacker. Squad kills him before my grenades go off.

I must agree with Bom. I wish 2142 had that feature not just for 'nades but also for the dumb players who run into a announced Orbital Strike after being told the position of it and to take cover.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

punish takes points off of your global score, and i only punish if somebodys being a right noob and needs to learn a lesson, or because of deliberate tks... i dont punish if its a friend, unless their doing it and im trying to play properly, where as they deserve it.

I always forgive unless it was just plain intentional

Punishing doesn't affect anyone's score. People need to let this myth die.

The Team Damage / Kill / Punish system works as follows:

Team Damage = -1 point
Team Kill = -3 points
Punish for Teamkill = -0 points (you do not lose additional points for a punish)

Even in BF2 and now in 2142, you have never lost additional points for a punished Teamkill. The punish system is used entirely differently.

Servers set a threshold for the number of punishes it takes before you are auto-kicked from the server. This is so intentional Teamkillers or careless people can be ejected from the server without needing an admin. Some servers also auto-kick for a negative score as a backup.

So, if the server threshold is 5 and you Teamkill 5 people who all punish, you will be auto-kicked and usually temp-banned until the end of the current round. From experience, this happens very rarely to people who Teamkill accidentally.

Some servers (including ours) kick for punishing accidental Teamkills. If you indiscriminately punish Teamkills when it was your fault that you were killed (E.G: running into the line of fire), it's your duty to forgive. People who cause bad blood by punishing others for their own idiocy have no place on teamwork-oriented servers. This is manually administered.

To further explain why people may get the incorrect impression that punishing removes additional score:

Sometimes, you cause Team Damage first, then later get the Teamkill. For example, you accidentally fire into a friendly tank as it crosses your firing line and get a -1 Team Damage score. Then, that same tank crosses your line again and you destroy it. You get -3 for the Teamkill. Thus, -1 Team damage and -3 Teamkill = -4 total deduction, whether they punish or not. An immediate Teamkill only yields -3 points.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

I generally punish depending on how stupid the person who did the TK is and expect punishes if I do something stupid in turn.

Example:
EU FAV gunning down the road my squad is crossing (we were PAC) so I unload a clip full of lead into the driver's face. Unfortunately the driver was from our team and they just stole the FAV. Um...whoops, I deserved that punish.

Squad was sneaking around a flag and a teammate from another squad shoots me in the back with their pistol. I turn around thinking it might be an enemy and he shoots me two more times then runs up and knifes me. For something THAT stupid I wished I could slap him multiple punishes.

Other stuff I generally let slide and hit forgive.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

I only punish if I know for a fact that the person ment to do it, or if they have Tk'd me more than 2 or 3 times. Anything other than that is a forgive.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

I always forgive. I don't care if someone TK's me, purposely or by accident. If they are doing it intentionally, then they obviously have a problem with me, so i just leave them alone and go separate ways. If it's accidental, well, it was an accident, so what?

If someone is teamkilling a LOT, then they will be kicked anyway, regardless if he's being forgiven or punished because of his negative score.

And don't sweat it if you accidently TK someone, and i mean, really, TK someone, like shoot them down because you thought he was part of the other team. Trust me, i've done this before! I've actually unloaded an entire voss clip on one of my teammates because I freaked out when he jumped at me and started dashing past me (don't know how he survived actually. i must have been REALLY freaked out). It wasn't till i was half way reloaded when i noticed his 5% health bar and all the "Stop firing!" messages in the chat line.
Even the most experienced players get confused at times, it's not uncommon.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

IMO, you should only punish if there are no enemies near by. Any TK while in battle is surely an accident on someone's part.

I think you should lose teamwork points for a punish since it really isn't helpful in any way. Nothing ruins my game and distracts me more than a punish for an unintentional TK.

Re: To Forgive or Not to Forgive

My friend from school and I were in a squad together a couple of days ago in Fall of Berlin. We snuck by and were about to capture the back EU flag when he thought it would be funny to kill me. I Punished.
