Game Crash / Freeze on Map Load - Page 3

I never had a problem with EA Link except for the verification problem you get when you run BF2142PACE.exe instead of Launcher.exe (When you go to run the game and it doesn't start). But that is easy to fix.

Try this it worked for me and I did not have to reinstall. I got it off the EA fourms.

"Go to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 (or equivalent) folder and locate the file "radial.cdb".This is a 2142 system file.
If you can't locate the file, you must set folder options to "veiw hidden files and folders".
To do this, look at the taskbar at the top of the current folder you're in (which should be your 2142 folder) and choose Tools, then Folder Options.Select the "View" tab.
Under "Hidden files and folders" check the "Show hidden files and folders" circle.

Now rename the radical.cdb file.
I renamed mine "radial.cdb.bak" or you may place any other letter in front of the file to rename it if you wish.
The game will create a new, uncorructed radical.cdb file when you restart the game."

I had the same problem with the map loading then freezing, where I had to totally uninstall 2142 then reinstall.
Thanks EA for your "We will throw it in a patch 3 months later" support.

I dont think that people who use EA Link to play have that radial.cdb file at all?

today the problem with crash at 50% load happened again, its happened before and i duno what fixed it, but again, no solutions seems to help, and last time re install didnt work.... ive tried pb update, driver update, bit defender off and on.. no change.... infact... this isnt the only problem. a couple servers i actually managed to join and thought it was fixed... but then like 5 mins in, it crashed.... the only way ive been able to excape is a total restart of computer using reboot button.

HELP PLEASE

hmm, sorry to see the re install didn't work. It happened to me last week. Have you tried a complete uninstall and install? Editing the reg and other stuff? That is what fixed mine.

I have heard a few peeps say this worked for them as well.

here is what i ended up doing the second time it happend.

I renamed my bf2142 folder in the my documents folder the started the game. I logged in with my account. then logged in to a server. I then deleted the new bf2142 folder in the my documents folder and renamed the old bf2142 folder to its original name.

I retract my previous statement - everyone should have that radial file - I had to use winrar and browse to my 2142 directory to see it - I guess is that its considered to be a OS file? because show hidden files was already enabled on my pc.

Reinstalling works very well - I would recommend try it again atleast one more time to see if you get a different result. I've had this problem 3 times already and reinstalling had worked for me each time.

Just confirmed that the file radial.cdb - is considered a operating system file! so to find this file so you dont have to reinstall - make sure to mark to show operating system protected files.

So I was out of town for a couple of weeks and 2142 seems to have grown a mind of its own since I got back even though it has worked virtually flawlessly since release.

Not sure what's happening here...Servers load, but the maps load very slowly until about halfway through the load, at which point my PC freezes up causing me to reboot.

Any ideas as to what could cause this? Thanks in advance. Need to get this thing up and running again soon!
