Problem Ingame freeze

I've got a few problems with BF2142 today.
Sometimes I start it up and it freezes when the map loads.
If the loading went well within the first minute it freezes up.
I've installed the latest BF2142 several times now but it still keeps freezing.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Re: Problem Ingame freeze

not sure, but im havin problems too where ill click my soldiers name and then it seems like it connects, but it freezes right before the main menu pops up and i have to ctrl alt del to get out of it. Very fustrating.

Maybe update your vid drivers? Youre not overheating are you? Thats what happens to me when im over heating.

edit...well seems like i cant get in with my main soldier but i tried starting a new one and that worked...cept i have to start from the beginning in terms of unlocks...very annoying.

Re: Problem Ingame freeze

I had the same problem as Snail, it stopped when I used Zonealarms game mode to allow all connections

Videodrivers are also updated. My comp is a Shuttle SD37P2 (not overclocked) and I'm monitoring it precisly so overheating is out of the question.
I've also dropped EA a message so hopefully they have something.

Re: Problem Ingame freeze

Try clearing out:

My Documents\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\cache
My Documents\Battlefield 2142\HttpCache
My Documents\Battlefield 2142\LogoCache

This usually fixes wierd freezes for me.

Re: Problem Ingame freeze

I saw this 1 to late (about the cache and so). Ahwell, I decided to do a complete reinstall of BF2142.

Then started it up having the Punkbuster problem several times.

I got to play finally Sunday-afternoon again.

EA and Punkbuster, thanks for wasting 3+ hours...

The EA-email;

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2142.

Were you able to properly play the game without crashing before? When did this issue start happening?
Does the game crash when you play online or even when you play singleplayer games?

Please try these troubleshooting steps one by one then run the game after each step and see if it resolves the issue:

Please try this and see if this resolves your game issue:

1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on the My Documents icon.
3. Right-click on the Battlefield 2142 folder.
4. Select delete.
5. Try the game again.

Your statistics and ranking are held on the server side so you should not have any issues with removing this folder. This folder just contains your user specific control settings that may, over time, become corrupted and therefore cause that issue that you are experiencing right now.

We can try running the game in windowed mode and see if the game runs or at least any errors that appear on the screen that cannot be shown when the game run in full screen may be shown when in windowed mode.

You have two ways of doing this. Search for the following files (depending on what version you have installed):

BF2142launcher.exe (EA Downloader version)

If you have the disc version skip this instruction -> right click on BF2142launcher.exe, select 'copy' go to your desktop then right click again and choose 'paste shortcut'.

Right click on the BF2142 icon then highlight and click on properties. Then you will see a new window.

"C:\...\Battlefield 2\BF2142launcher.exe/BF2142.exe (version dependent)"

Add this line after the last quote:

+menu 1 +fullscreen 0

Take notice that fullscreen normally is set to 1. Changing this to 0 forces the game to run in windowed mode.

Make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts.

· Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
· Click the "Processes" tab.
· Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name.
· Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
· Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names.
· Click on END PROCESS
· Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.

Also try to manually disable any anti-virus programs that are currently running in your system prior to running your game as these programs are more than likely to interfere with proper gameplay and/or installation... And more often than not, these processes are not running under your account name. That is why you cannot seem to disable these programs.

You will need to lower the Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "basic".

To do this, follow these steps:

· Click the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your Desktop.
· Click on "Run". · Erase any text already in the run prompt.
· Type in: dxdiag
· Click the OK button.
· Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.
· Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to "Basic".
· Click "Exit" in the bottom right hand corner.

You can also try and uninstall the game, delete the game folders, then reinstall again as there may have been corrupted game files during initial installation or subsequent gameplay.
