Anyone playing Wireless?
We are moving into a new house in a couple of weeks. The cable outlet spot is less than idea for my purposes, and my wife won't be too happy about my running Cat5 over doorways taped to the wall
Hardwood floors so no carpet to run it under. The obvious solution is to go wireless. I already have a wireless router which works just fine. But is anyone actually gaming on a wireless connection? If so, I'd love some impressions!

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
I was using a wireless router for a while, out of necessity, and didn't have too much of an issue with it. The one thing I do have to complain about was the random drops and reconnects I would have between my wireless card and router (both DLink). The router and rig were less than 60 feet apart and on the same plane (didn't have to go through floors, duct work, etc). The disconnects weren't frequent, but when you're having a great round even once is too much.
If your interested in making an upgrade to the house, you can get hollow baseboards with built in wire raceways to help hide the cables. My family room has no place for me to run wires other than next to the wall, once we rip up the carpet in a few months, I plan on replacing three quarters of the baseboard with this molding. Not overly cheap, but at least I won't have the miscellaneous A/V and cat5 laying around anymore...

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
D-Link's GameFuel router works very well for me over a wireless connection. A bit pricey but it fixed a lot of issues I was having with an old WRTG54G running DD-WRT firmware.

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
You may also wanna check out Homeplug/Powerline solutions. These are getting quite good as a substitute for CAT5/Wireless i've read.

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
I've been running a Linksys cheapo something-or other (free from Verizon) router for probably 6 years straight and no problems really. It has ocassionally dropped a signal, but I'm straight into the router so don't notice, but the rest of the family rarely has issues.
I'd probably look into running cable/making a new outlet; really isn't quite hard and looks fine when you finish.

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
I used to play BF2 wireless for some time. Random drops were annoying, but overall it wasnt too bad. Although, depending on your situation and where the cable backbone is brought in...I'd run it behind the drywall. Little more costly and labor intensive, but looks much nicer and you'll be happier with it in the end.

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
That's assuming you have an unfinished basement to go down to. Crown molding is another way of hiding wires. Run them up a wall (behind the sheet rock if possible, out the top and behind the crown molding. II would go that route, but my ceilings are 7.5 feet high (lower than average)...

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
Ahh, that's kinda a big problem then. Wireless will probably be best route to go then, just make sure you have dependable hardware and such.

Re: Anyone playing Wireless?
I played using a hotel wireles connection on my trip a few months ago. I had no problems at all. I don't know what brand they were using but it fast did not add any lag really.
