No-Disc Solution?
I was just curious to ask if anyone knows of a way to not have to have your DVD in the drive in order to start 2142. I can't be the only one who is always playing musical chairs with the 2142 DVD and other discs. I realize that copy-protection is a touchy subject, so I want to be clear that my inquiry regards my real, physical BF2142 that I bought new from amazon.com.
After some research and googling, I found leads that described making an image of your DVD with Alcohol 120% (or other image-making software capable of reading the disc at a low level). At that point, they say to use Daemon Tools or Alcohol to mount the image, ensuring that the various integrity emulators are enabled. I haven't had any luck with that, but the latest lead that I've yet to try is to disable your (real) DVD drive, which sadly defeats the purpose of all of this. I'll keep this thread posted of any useful developments.

Re: No-disc solution?
There is a bf2142.exe file and dll floating around which works
fine. I use it myself. Good bye disc-joggling. This must-have-disc-in-drive business from EA is pointless btw. You can't play online without a valid key anyway!

Re: No-disc solution?
I have been using the method you descibed, BZ55. But as I dont use the drive for anything other than games, I dont have a problem disabling it.
Although there is a program that can disable your drive for you and then enable it afterwards, quicker than going to the device manager, but I havent tried it. You can get it from here I also use daemonscript to have a shortcut that mounts the image and runs the game for me.

Re: No-disc solution?
It's still alive and kicking.
![]() Hmm, I think I might start doing the whole virtual cd thingy. I'm already finding scratches on my 2142 dvd from being in the drive the last few months.

Re: No-disc solution?
one thing to note, some servers will check for modified executables. No CD hacks are sometimes picked up by punkbuster as game integrity violations.

Re: No-disc solution?
I just finished a 4 hour stretch on the NS server with no problems using a NO CD version.

Re: No-disc solution?
Competition servers often will run extra checks for game integrity. In the past, this has resulted in problems for players being listed on punksbusted master ban list and being barred from competing in leagues such as TWL.

Re: No-disc solution?
Thats good to know. I guess I'll try the "image" route to be safe.

Re: No-disc solution?
Really, I used Alcohol 120% to make the image and daemon tools with all emulation, disabled the dvd drive from the device manager, and it worked first time.
