"The game cannot start."

Last two attempts at playing I get the message that pops up from EA Link -

"The game cannot start. Out of system resources. Please reboot your computer and try again."

I rebooted and get the same message. Any ideas?

Re: "The game cannot start."

How's your hard drive space looking? How 'bout your RAM, running a lotta processes in the background? I hear clearing BF's cache helps in some situations.

I've got a similar/random issue as well. Start up to join the rest of the guys on the Titan server, and EA Link claims the game is not installed. Clearly sitting there on my desktop in a backup folder from installing the patch, open it up and a I'm apparently missing the launch file. Tried to paste it back in, no good, so just reinstalling. Makes this number 3 now not counting reformat.

Re: "The game cannot start."

Hmmm. This is the first I've seen of this message, as of this evening. Not sure what I could have done differently as I have not done anything on my computer for weeks (load new games, programs, etc).

BOOOO I just got this problem too, but that was after reinstalling the game. AVG picked up BF2142Pace.exe as being tied to a virus. You use AVG as well?

Yes, I have the AVG free. What did you do to get the game running?

Re: "The game cannot start."

What I've found out/learned so far:

AVG sees a virus connected to BF2142Pace.exe (The file used to launch 2142 if you bought it through EA Link if I'm understanding things correctly), and chucks it in the virus vault. Upon trying to restore the file, AVG is grabbing it back and throwing it back in the vault. After finding another option to restore items from AVG, I tried to do it again, and got the file out, but doesn't appear to be in the correct form. Looked at the file and didn't see much of a way to get it back into an .exe. Right now I'm waiting for someone to send me a copy of their BF2142Pace.exe file. I hope this is gonna work, I'm gonna try and keep AVG disabled and replace the file and launch and see what happens.

Oh, btw, don't bother reinstalling at the moment because it doesn't seem like that did me any good.

Re: "The game cannot start."

I just got the game to load. Complete luck as I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

I went to the AVG icon on my computer clicked on "Control Center" and turned off the "Resident Shield" and it allowed me to play.

I'm assuming AVG updates daily and it may have updated which did not allow us to play?

Re: "The game cannot start."

That did the trick for me. Thanks man, just gotta now find a way to get things to work together and have virus protection turned on. Used to use Symantec Corporate through my school, but wasn't liking it much, might move back again.

Re: "The game cannot start."

Okay, I'll guess I'll post here as well as in the other thread within the 9th area.

For those of you trying to get the Resident Shield of AVG to work with 2142, are you able to add the 2142 folder and/or the 2142.exe to the scanning exceptions list? If such an option exists where the resident doesn't touch the folder/exe file, I suggest you guys try it. It might work and allow you to run the resident without the need to disable it every time you want to play.

Re: "The game cannot start."

Gonna check that out after work. I haven't fooled around much with AVG so was only hoping such an option was available. Thanks man!

Re: "The game cannot start."

Doesn't look like there's any exception list to use/setup. Might go back to Symantec Corporate.
