Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

Hello,

It just happen as I wanted to ajust my mike. As I just had to reformat the disk the setting were not yet in their optimum. So I decided to go on the option menu to set up my sound and I had three option...software; hardware which was hilighting the EAX and then the soundblaster Xfi option. When I click on this last option, my PC seems to freeze for a while, then BF 2142, just shut down...I have reinstall the driver and everything is ok; my logitech webcam mic is disable, 5 speaker working ok...
Kust downloaded the update driver...I went on Creative site and it seems that the BF2142 does not support the last Kfi version???
Any idea would be welcome...Please need help,

In advance thank you to all the community
Cheers

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

The quality of Creative hardware has gone down the crapper. Many people experience problems with the X-Fi (including myself). I have just reverted to my old Live!, it seems to do the trick.

The X-Fi is a waste of money. I hear M-Audio is good for high quality cards, though they are a little pricey.

I assume you have the xfi card?

I LOVE mine and never have problems with it. My fps went up by about 15 fps when i installed it and the sound is amazing.

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

I do love my X-Fi.

But, Creative really has gone down in quality. Only reason I got it was because Creative has a stranglehold on the gaming industry with their EAX and whatnot.

It does rock, but drivers have been pretty crappy in the past, and I had a big time problem first month or so I had my system running. They also had an issue with NF4 chipsets for a bit before a recall.

I loved my X-Fi, until I got Northern Strike, now I can't play 2142 on x-fi mode anymore without horrible screeching after an orbital strike.

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

thank you for the sharing, I actually have not other trouble and it could come from conflict as it was with logitech webcam driver. I think creative isn't so bad in all. I puirchased for this card as it has the ASIO mode, which allowed to edit home made movies in 5.1. It seems I have the same PB as Zoopy T, I can't play in Xfi mode. I will continue my research...thank's anyway

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

Hello,

I just made the update of my SB, and now BF does not crash when I select sound blaster option. On the other habd it tells me that my hardware is not compatible, any way I live like this.
Any other input are welcome, thank you again and see you online!
Cheers

Love my Xifi as well, I do get crackling sometimes on strikes and EAX on you get the oribal/emp strike cut off by half a second, but thats because I run on High

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

I've got a new system with X-fi and it's just started to crash if too much audio is happening all at once, i.e. orbital strike, sentry gun, and/or frag at same time. It wasn't happening before, but now 2-3 times in an evening. Then I have to do a "hard" boot.

Do you guys think I should try a new driver or just change my settings from "high"? I'm a real noob when it comes to this stuff, so be gentle...lol.

Re: Sound for xfi goes into crash!!!

If there is a new official driver available. Then get it. also try moving the card to a different pci slot- the one furthest away from everything is usually best.
