BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
Was out of town last week, played BF2142 a few times on my laptop just fine - aside from lousy Internet connection at LaQuinta Milwaukee - but that's beside the point.
On returning home, tried to fire up 2142 on my desktop, and got the "BF2142Pace.exe has stopped working" message. Did some searching and found a batch file (Total BF2142 site I think) that removes the PACE anti-piracy registry keys. Ran it on the desktop, and it was back running just fine.
Have since tried to run 2142 on my laptop, and getting the same error message. Except running the batch file doesn't fix the problem. Run the batch, reboot, no dice.
Both desktop and laptop are running Vista Ultimate, and 2142 was playing just fine on both systems before my trip, and on the laptop *during* the trip.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to avoid the ultra-fun uninstall/redownload through EA Link/reinstall 2142 experience if at all possible.

What anti-virus software do you run? I run AVG-Free and it claimed BF2142Pace was a virus and deleted it on me once or twice, then two days later the next AVG update fixed it.
Same situation, it was working fine, then next day it was freakin' out on me.

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
Caught msg on another board about setting BF2142pace.exe as an exception application if Data Execution Protection (DEP) is turned on. Added that yesterday, no change in results.
Tried this morning, added pnkbstrA.exe and pnkbstrB.exe as exceptions as well. Going to reboot and see if that has any affect.

Heh, really looks like reinstalling is gonna be your best bet. I keep the downloaded install files on my PC now, not going through that download again.

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
Does your batch file also delete the C:\Program Files\Common Files\PACE Anit-Piracy folder? Also do you run the batch after every failed start up (PACE files are created on every start up)?
Other things could be sound. I had my onboard sound on and my X-fi soundcard on and it caused the game to crash...

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
I've purchased a copy of the game on DVD, mainly so my son (Noskeeper, a new SM here at TG) can play together... So I'll try that on the laptop. Crossing my fingers..

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
Found a solution to this problem:
Close out EA Link then log back in
Go to the folder that contains the bf2142pace.exe file, and right click and set it to run in compatibility mode for windows 2000 and do the same for bflauncher.exe.
Launch the game as you normally do. Close it, go back and disable compatibility.
Sometimes this doesn't work on the first try, so you may have to restart, its a really odd fix, found it on a forum after googling awhile ago.

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
ok believe it or not I got the answer and this works, if the problem is that your running vista and your getting that pace.exe has stopped working error. I can't believe it took this long for something this easy to dawn on me.. lol .. so do this step by step, and if your running vista and getting that message the game should work. OK? Here we go.
First go to the my computer or computer icon on your desktop, right click on it and click on properties. The Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System box pops up. on the left hand side click Advanced system settings. then a your system properties box comes up. on performance, click settings, then the performance options box opens. Click the data execution prevention tab at the top of the box.
Click add at the bottom where it says add or remove. Now once you click add a box will pop up and get it to go to your desktop, then click battlefield 2142 icon then click add.. then click the play battlefield 2142 online icon then click add again
. MAKE SURE AFTER YOU DO THAT YOU CLICK APPLY AT THE BOTTOM. IF YOU DON'T DO THAT IT WILL NOT SAVE THE SETTINGS YOU JUST MADE. Then close out of all of those boxes. Click on your game icon and bam. It should work fine.Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun <eg>

Re: BF2142pace.exe has stopped working
I just got BF2142 running again after having the BF2142Pace stopped working popup.
I have Vista 64bit
What i did is this...........
Starting with just the desktop:
1. click the start button and right click the computer button.
2. click properties.
3. top left of the box click advance system settings.
4. the system properties box pops up and you click on settings in the performance section of the box.
5. Performance option box pops up then click on the data execution prevention tab.
6. in the box should be the following in the box..
BF2142Pace
Core.exe
GameLauncher
(I was missing pace)
7. click the add button just below the box and a box should popup.
8. at the end of the search box i clicked the down or drop down arrow and found OS(C
and clicked on it.
9. then scroll down and find program files (x86) and click on it.
10. scroll again and find the battlefield 2142 file and click it.
11. scroll and find BF2142Pace and double click so it appears in the performance options box and make sure all have checks in the boxes infront of them.
12. Click apply at bottom then OK.
You should be good to go shooting.
